One theory is that the media felt like they’d already covered him enough as a rising star pol, so they instead jumped all over the shiny object new centrist-y Dem, in the form of Pete. But Americans who aren’t political junkies don’t really know who Booker is.

You're all discounting just how loving lovely the general US population is. I guarantee that Warren would get trounced by Trump, in no small part because she's a woman. I'll vote for whoever gets the nomination, but if it isn't Bernie get ready for another 4 years of complete idiocy.

I'll vote for whoever gets the nomination, but if it isn't Bernie get ready for another 4 years of complete idiocy. Most of the people I talk to on a day to day basis are in the US, and I'm a bit of weird position as someone from the UK that that's been true for like 20 years. I ask my friends what they think all the time, this is as of last week is my summary opinion: Warren: Dead if she has to debate Trump, just no chance. She can't lie, he does all the time - pretty much no contest. I couldn't beat Trump in an argument and I'm a complete bastard. Bernie: Even the more conservative older people I know have respect for him, but they're (them specifically) not quite sure what he wants, but it's more curiosity now rather than "yuck! socialism!". They expect him to exterminate Trump in a debate. So from my reading of that, Bernie can win, just needs to keep doing what he's doing and keep doing those awesome interviews. Man he perked up when he got his heart fixed. Bet you 50/50 the dems don't pick him though.

A lot of this stuff is Democrats being freaked out as gently caress over a Trump second term, the Democratic Primary going on way too long, and nothing new really happening in months. The counterpoints to most of the above doom-and-gloom posts: 1) Hillary lost the election by 80,000 votes in the Midwest. That isn't much and most of those areas reverted back to blue in 2018 (though polls are still iffy). 2) drat near any person the Democrats nominate is beating Trump in general polls. Doesn't really matter who it is. 3) 2018 happened and Republicans got their asses kicked. Even with Trump yelling a lot. Even with drat near every Republican candidate yelling PELOSIIIIIII at the top of their lungs. 4) Donnie drove off a lot of people during his administration, they might leak all sorts of fun poo poo during the general election. Don't assume the only bad poo poo will happen to Democrats. 5) Any debate, if it happens, won't matter. Opinions are solidly made about Trump already, all a Democrat really needs to do is string together coherent sentences on a debate stage about how much he sucks. It's a 12-hour news cycle, people will forget about any debate a week after. It's very likely possible that everyone is thinking about this too hard. Donnie's numbers suck, the people that hate him REALLY hate him, he has done nothing to gain any additional support outside of his base, people hate his policies, and very few people will have their minds changed. Both candidates in the general will have a massive money cannon, it will be a massive turnout election, and most of the poo poo is baked-in based on Trump's need for everything to be an up-or-down vote on himself. Still an outside shot of Donnie winning, of course. Just maybe not as much as people think if their favorite Democrat wins the primary.

It's literally Trump's Pocahontas poo poo but from people who should know better. This. Also, it's worth mentioning (again) that the blood test was specifically calling Trump's bluff, but it got buried pretty fast that that's what was happening. She's still apologized for it, which has been met with (understandably) iffy responses from various indigenous folks in the US, but showcasing it as just some epic bungle is disingenuous.
