At home I use this one: https://www.amazon.com/ELECOM-M-HT1DRBK-Wireless-Trackball-Mouse/dp/B0735584RM I generally prefer this kind, but it definitely feels cheaper and clunkier than Logitech, and one of the buttons is acting up after less than two years. Still a decent purchase.

Tonight XXXX and I worked on building the 2nd Smart PDU. YYYY had mocked up the 1st and passed along a rough wiring schematic. This is a good hands on project to show XXXX a few things that he probably did not know before. Also XXXX was able to do some soldering on this project which turned out good. *Pending Completion*

They do great work like rebooting computers, wiring out in the plant (nice to do when less people are here), watch movies on our collab table TV, and manual virus scans: Today XXXX asked YYYY and me to look into Reception computers and the Manager computer to look for suspicious .exe files. After setting restore points, I then used the following forfiles command::: forfiles /P C: /S /D +01/07/2020 /m *.exe /C "cmd /c echo @PATH" ::: I then continued to scan each computer using KVRT (Kapersky Virus Removal Tool). Manager came back with 6 detected threat objects which were either cured or deleted from the machine. The others resulted with no threats.

Not pissing me off.. I just told Comcast to GTFO.. One of our locations has had continued problems since last last year.. A Comcast tech told me they have had a internal ticket open for the node we are connected to since August of 2019. They still have not fixed it yet. The node serves approx. 500 customers. And they have all been having problems. Told them we are breaking the contract and will not be paying any ETF fees. The person I spoke with said this won't be a problem due to the repeated problems noted on the account. A little local telecom can finally service the location with fiber, so gently caress off Comcast! I fully expect them to bill us the ETFs. They can gently caress right off on that.

My boss resigned recently. He was pushing to get me a promotion, but his boss seems to have very different opinions about what would qualify me for the next rung in the ladder. I now effectively have an essentially 0% chance of promotion (in the mid-term anyway), despite a very stellar performance review. Long story short my current compensation is not a reflection of my effort or competency level, advancement within my team is likely somewhat halted, and the future of our leadership is uncertain. This seems kind of like an "it's time to go" moment, but I can't think of much I hate more than interviewing and selling myself to strangers. I tend to be risk adverse, so while I may not be very happy, I have a hard time just moving on. The other part of that is I don't have a lot of experience applying to more senior roles or familiarity with other companies. I started at the bottom rung and have made it a decent way on internal promotions. Not quite rakes to riches, but close. PBS fucked around with this message at 02:34 on Jan 15, 2020 |

Update your resume, then send out as many applications as you're comfortable with. If you do end up getting an interview, you can use it to judge where your skills are, and whether there are gaps in your knowledge that you can study or get certifications for (judging by my own experience going from helpdesk to system administrator at one company, what you learn as you're promoted organically can be uneven). Since you're still employed, you don't have the worst part of a job search: the pressure to find something before your savings run out.

My mother-in-law is head of HR at a small company and she's been going through some poo poo the past week. A colleague suffered a cardiac arrest in the office and she had to perform CPR while the paramedics were en route. Unfortunately he still passed away a day later. And this after she requested workplace AEDs but not getting approved. I'll give credit to her, she raised hell when her bosses pulled her in for a meeting the next workday about replacing the deceased, and they refused to arrange a small moment for all employees to come together to grieve and process the events.

I worked for an American company in a UK office and there were AEDs everywhere, this was back in 2007 when I don't think I'd ever seen one before. They still seem to be quite a rare feature.

My boss asked me to get some quotes to replace our well past EOL switches. We are basically a Cisco shop just because ???. We are also restricted to what we buy based on our government requirements etc. Me: "Ok boss, here are the figures (examples): Cisco: $2m plus we have to use smart licencing even though this is for an offline network so it adds another layer of resource overhead. Juniper: $0.9m From my calculations, we are getting 50% more ports for 50% less price! And since our access layer is just L2 with dot1x, there's no real reason to at least buy a few to trial with (or even try to get some demo models) before we spend the big bucks. The SFPs are cheaper too, and you can any brand instead of being forced to use Cisco ones" Boss: "Ok, Cisco it is!"

It's a $1m deal you'd probably get sent a couple of switches without having to try, especially if you're unseating Cisco. Oh well.

After nearly two months we finally got a failed drive in a RAID array replaced at remote location. Server is still running slow. I would be interested in your thoughts on this. Load average on a backup server is high but there isn't any reason for it to be high. I thought at it was a drive issue and I/O was bottlenecking processes but both drives have been replaced. Rebooting puts the load average at a reasonable level and then it shoots back up after a day or so. You can reboot it if you want. Boss sends me the info, wants me to look at it. Within about 20 minutes I have it fixed, since I can actually look at logs and use my tiny brain instead of just blaming the RAID controller It's an old Sandy Bridge power limiting issue, but we're running RHEL 6.2 from 2011, and the kernel doesn't have that bug patched. Fixable with a boot option for now. I like playing with fucky old linux boxes so I'm going to offer T&M consulting after hours when I leave. UPDATE YOUR loving SERVERS AND BUY A RHN SUBSCRIPTION
