Warren's campaign planted a script among Bernie's volunteer staff that claimed they were being coached to "attack" her campaign (by saying Warren's supporters were mostly affluent and white -- which ironically is spot on).

Warren's campaign used that allegation as grounds to break their non-aggression pact and come up with a hit of their own (supposedly in retaliation, but they planted the initiating incident anyway). Warren's attack was to bring up their meeting she had with Sanders in 2018 where they met and discussed running for 2020 with each other.

Warren came out and said that Bernie said during this meeting "I don't think a woman can be President" which is not quite OBJECTIVELY false but doesn't jive at all with other stuff we've heard Bernie say -- he famously tried to get Warren to run in 2016 and ran when she didn't, and has videos from 30 years ago saying women can be President. At best, Sanders might have said that Trump and Republicans will weaponize gender against a woman candidate, but to twist that into Warren's claim is a step too far.

Bernie denied it emphatically at the debate last night. Warren looked like an idiot and a snake denying his denial. There's a HUGE wave of people refunding their donations to Warren and donating to Bernie now -- it outpaces people actually donating to Warren.

At the end of the debate Warren approached Bernie, he tried to shake her hand, she refused (see above tweet with the art), and Warren said "You said I was a liar on national TV." Bernie tried to defuse it, said "Let's talk about this later", then said "You called ME a liar". In the middle of all this, Tom Steyer, who actually had a surprisingly great performance last night and jumped up to #2 on a bunch of people's lists which is really lol considering the extremely anti-billionaire tenor of the primary so far

The whole accusation of Bernie being sexist on EXTREMELY tenuous (fabricated) grounds smacks heavily of Hillary's campaign, and as it turns out, Warren hired a lot of the Clinton staffers after they burned out of Kamala and Kirsten Gillibrand's campaigns. It's blatantly a last ditch attempt to win the nomination, by sabotaging someone who to this point had been her closest ally (and friend) and hadn't gone negative on her at all. Further reinforces Warren's terrible political instincts.

Also not to be ignored in all of this is CNN's role on goading all of this on, facilitating the attacks on Bernie, and being incredibly, INCREDIBLY biased

But it's basically the end of Warren's campaign. The reception has been VERY negative

From now on it's Bernie vs Biden pretty much

Naw it's good because there lots of rounding going on at the precinct level for delegates (for example at my caucus in 2016 there were a couple more Hillary supporters than Bernie supporters but we had been allocated six county delegates so both of them got three from our caucus) and also delegate allocations are pre assigned based on how many people in your precinct voted last election so depending on how many people show up at your precinct you might have 5 people per delegate or you might have 30. The raw numbers will paint a better picture of what it would look like as a primary vs. a caucus.

The script was not in use and largely idle, but someone felt that this was substantial enough to circulate as "this is what Bernie supporters are saying about Warren"

never mind the fact that it's the mildest possible criticism of Warren, and never mind the fact that the description of her base rings true, this "scandal" managed to worm its way from twitter circles to online pundits to mainstream media in no time flat

and then, this was interpreted by the Warren campaign and lib pundits as the sign that Sanders had finally broken his promise to not attack Warren, and so all bets were now off

which then leads the Warren campaign to publish this "leak" about Sanders telling Warren that she couldn't win because she was a woman

Sanders and Warren had a one-on-one meeting some time in 2018. Based on reporting at the time, the most generous interpretation of what Sanders said to Warren is that a woman candidate is going to have to deal with weaponized misogyny as she tries to win the Presidency. Which is, you know, absolutely true.

somehow, this metamorphosed into Warren's claim that Sanders told her that a woman could not win the Presidency. Whether she deliberately distorted Sanders's words, or she is genuinely misremembering, or she likes to brag and distort and misrepresent to her staff and her staff ran with it, I don't know, but that's what she says happened

Sanders denied it prior to the debate

during the debate, Sanders was asked about it, he denied it again

then the moderator turned to Warren and asked her how she felt about being told that a woman could not win the Presidency

then the moderator turned to Klobuchar and asked her how she felt about being told that a woman could not win the Presidency. Mind you, Sanders denied it outright, when he was asked directly

as the debate ends, Sanders tries to shake Warren's hand, except she draws back, and she says something to him that pisses off Sanders

we're told by CNN that they don't have the audio of this exchange

24 hours later, CNN tells us that they DO have audio of this exchange, and it consists of Warren telling Sanders that he accused her of being a liar, and Sanders brushing her off and telling her that they could talk about it some other time. It's obvious to me that Sanders had to have known that he was on a hot mic, and didn't want to get baited into saying a quotable quote.

the whole thing stinks:

* someone blows up a story about the Sanders campaign "going negative" on Warren in their canvassing scripts (even if it's likely that Warren instigated/planted the story in the first place)
* Warren takes this as a signal that she can go negative on Sanders herself
* Warren uses the opportunity to drop this story about being told that a woman can't win the Presidency
* CNN runs with the story even if the sourcing is poo poo, because they have a debate to run and ratings to chase
* CNN's debate moderators escalate the accusations, and completely disregard Sanders's denial
* they rig the post-debate handshake thing for maximum news cycle dominance

Worth mentioning that Bernie specifically wanted Warren to run against Clinton in 2016 to be the progressive check on Clinton's lovely neoliberalism, and she refused so Bernie stepped in himself. So like it makes no sense to tell Warren she can't win because she's a woman 2 years later

Because of Warren's age she'd only take VP as the capstone to her career, she's too old to groom for President. I assume there'd be something in it for Castro as he's much younger - State or something much more visible than he was under Obama.

In no way do I disagree with this thread, but I think it's unfair to a lot of people who CANNOT speak out about Warren, especially about the "native" issue. Look what happens now when we bring it up - or any criticism. It's sexist, or just because Trump says it you're not allowed to also point it out. It's incredibly, incredibly difficult to criticize centrist liberal women in public without being called a sexist.
