I'd seen Electro somewhere before, and I thought I'd do some digging about him. Doesn't seem like there's very much info about his inner workings online. Most of what I can find indicates that he was just a record player in a fancy case.

Dykes to Watch Out For

I'm also going to toss in a bit of Sam's Strip to test the waters. This was a very short-lived Mort Walker and Jerry Dumas strip that ran concurrently with their more well-known runs on Beetle Bailey and Hi and Lois. It's much self-referential and meta, and focuses on two guys who run their own comic strip, with numerous cameos by other early to mid 20th century characters. It only ran from 1961 to 1963 but I've been very fond of it since running across the Fantagraphics reprint a few years ago. The meta stuff is not as daring as it would have been 60 years ago, but I love the rhythm of it, it has a super pleasant, very tight vaudeville tempo to it. Please let me know if you'd like to see more of it!

Anyway. Sam's Strip, 10/16--10/18/1961:

Actually, now that you mention it they probably were in Swedish. The vacation home my parents bought in the 80s still had a bunch of crap out in the barn and there were some boxes of old comics among it. Mostly poo poo but there were a couple of MAD Magazine issues that I still have to this day. Swedish MAD sucks compared to the Norwegian one.

Most comics employ a sliding past as the present stays present.

Look at the Simpsons for the most obvious example

It went out of its way to zing political correctness. I'm sincerely surprised it wasn't an edit. Dilbert and Pros and Cons have eaten poo poo in this thread for a lot less than that.

Zits is doing a really job making me dislike the meme now since the way Jeremy is using it is just as obnoxious as when boomers refer to literal children as millennials.

Cheer Up Boss Dharma

Speaking of which apparently the characters in Boss Dharma have been aging in real time. They didn't age in Chief Dharma- although they might have just been aging slower.
