Rain was so heavy yesterday just south of Sydney that everyone was pulling off the Hume Highway into the breakdown lane with hazard lights on. Got stuck there for 30 minutes with it just pissing down, even had some hail.

The visibility in the mountains today has been rubbish due to a super heavy mist. I had to drive somewhere earlier and there where a few people with their hazards on. The local cops asked people not to because it was making things more dangerous particularly at roundabouts.

More rain please, just keep it coming. I don't think I need it where I am but just torrential for a week straight over the dam would be peachy.

Hyperlynx posted:Hey, might be worth talking to a migration agent, or perhaps even a migration lawyer. There's people whose literal job is to figure out how you can legally stay in the country for the longest possible time (ie, ideally permanently). I can stay permanently in theory right now, just can't ever vote or use Medicare or any other social safety nets despite paying the same taxes as everyone else. Also need a bigger downpayment on property and various other things that make me feel unwanted. But I do need to renew my visa every 5 years so if the rules change I'm hosed and it sure doesn't look like Australia is going to get any more immigrant friendly any time soon. I do plan to talk to a lawyer after I've settled a bit more. Haven't even been back a year. Aus had always felt like home though - used to have a Sydney accent etc.

Don't panic too quickly if it's just one, I've noticed individual AQI monitors tend to be pretty prone to janky readings and getting stuck on high for no reason every now and then, you wanna have a few and filter out the outliers.

In the classic way my grandparents downtalk stuff, I got a call from grandma saying that they ran out of water on their farm on Xmas day. For the first time in 40+ years. Might have been a handy thing to mention over the break to get free water from me in 1000 litre pods, but I guess old people gonna be proud. The water stuff was a passing comment. The main point of the conversation was that grandpa had somehow hosed with the TV remote and grandma cannot get her (whispering tone and gradually increasing in volume) "loving.... TENNIS KEITH!!" God I love that old bat. Humphreys fucked around with this message at 17:21 on Jan 17, 2020 |

Yeah, French Island is getting hit hard. https://twitter.com/julianprice_/status/1218394777822973954 This is the location in the above video: https://www.google.com.au/maps/@-38.3400517,145.3738281,480a,35y,148.69h,41.99t/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en I think there are only one or two trucks on the island normally, so nearby brigades are getting their trucks ferried across. https://twitter.com/tom_cowie/status/1218427235717115906

Who wants some cowardice from The Guardian? https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-...-climate-change quote:While Australian prime minister, Scott Morrison, has talked down suggestions there are climate change deniers in his party, several Australian government MPs have continued to downplay the role of global heating on the bushfire crisis, and Morrison has attempted to pivot the debate from acting on climate change to resilience and adaptation. I mean it's not like he's one of the deniers or anything

It gets worse, Hillsong said they prayed for rain, so the fuckers are going to say God did it for them. For international goons, Hillsong is a Pentecostal church and our PM belongs to one of its affiliate churches and the Minister for NDIS, the disability scheme, is also a Pentecostal who siphons money out of the scheme for the use of his best buddys in government and business.

Hey goons, thank you for keeping the thread alive. I obviously haven't been around providing updates this last week. This is mostly because I've been out of it with other stuff, was hoping to return to it this week but a) Rains are the big news ATM b) I am dealing with some non-fire related issues that are leaving me feeling a bit rough and not in the mood for much, let alone digging up news stories. Again thanks to everyone who is keeping this issue in the goon-public eye.
