In both of these recent PBs I got an itemfly at the start of the mohole fight and then missed the DFA, so clearly it's time to load up the level and practice that. In Port Anderson II I'm used to having to go to the third biomech in the first arena, but in this run it came to me. I don't think I'll ever understand enemy behavior in this game.

my personal speedgame’s fastest version is on PC and it doesnt work on my machine. i just play on an emulator. i timed the loading screen difference and only compare my time with that in mind

Like, it's actually a pretty tiring run to physically do on top of the massive memorisation overhead necessary. There are also skips! Multiple! Because you can solve a couple of Meta levels in ways that are absolutely not supposed to be possible because: - they got patched out (downpatching lol) - they make the level select poo poo itself since levels aren't supposed to correspond to like three objects at the same time basically there's a really esoteric solve you can do on an early level that causes it to solve as Flag/Text which gives you access to "Level" text in the hubworld a shitton earlier than you're meant, which allows you to casually skip over a bunch of levels. Meta6 is skipped, Meta8-11 is skipped, 12-13 are also skipped, so like, half the Meta isn't actually solved which saves a shitton of time and brings the run length down to something more digestible even if the solve in question that enables this is excruciatingly exact about how it works because it's not a thing you're supposed to be able to do. It's neat. Zero RNG though, so it's not a very dynamic run. One trick pony run, but I think it's a solid trick.

as an additional bit of bitchiness, I would like to add that cheese is not only a transphobe, he's also just broadly an obnoxious human being on like a more fundamental level, having generally been a prick to me and a few others at events for no real reason. In my case he heckled me before a marathon run I was doing and fortunately the mic wasn't on otherwise it'd probably have picked up me telling him to gently caress off he is a classic example of someone who has come to like the smell of their own farts because everyone in this loving hobby deems sm64 The Bestest and Most Important Thing so he's spent much of his formative years being told he's the most important guy in the room.

I'm trying to find a past Super Mario Maker race from GDQ which had the little player avatars on the screen but I just can't find it on GDQ vods. Did I imagine the whole thing? I know for sure that it's not the one from SGDQ 2018.

Yeah, the way they were able to do it was by building the player order into the rom, so that the picture changed on each death. Can't do that with mario maker.

I think my favourite parts of speedruns are when the player has to wait for an elevator or a platform or something and they inevitably start doing backflips and acrobatics because holding still for an entire thirty seconds would probably destroy their momentum.
