I wonder if they cycle the training or his group was just doing it on their own and he wasn’t smart about concealing it. Either is completely possible.

Not infantry but was an FO. Most of those guys have never tried to move in that gear. The Drop legs are all set too low and they have so much empty space on their vests that they’d be better served just putting the holster on it up front on the chest above the mags. Drop legs make running awkward even when worn right. There’s that one guy with a pouch over his groin that will nut shot him the first time he goes prone. The helmet straps are generally not set right so they will flop around anytime they move faster than a walking pace. Also superfluous Nods mounts and flashlights on the helmets. Assault packs are sitting far too low on the back. Again posing a problem when moving quickly. Also it pulls your shoulders back. This was also brought up but the gear all looks new and stiff like it hasn’t been broken in at all. Which makes it fit poorly and chafe a poo poo ton. I could keep going but it’s mostly rehashed. My favorite was the .50 cal guy who had “IFAK FIRST AID” Handwritten on a pouch. It’s like writing ATM Machine because IFAK stands for infantry first aid kit. But purely performative just like that rifle. There were a few guys who looked like they were vets or cops and had simple worn in gear. That was a little more troubling than all the Larpers.

I can speak from some scientific and medical knowledge about the China coronavirus outbreak. The coronavirus can be pretty lethal, and this outbreak is still in its infancy and we likely haven’t yet fully sequenced its genome to allow totally complete back and forward tracking of all the cases. The death rate isn’t that high but the morbidity rate certainly is not something to ignore. This wouldn’t have a problem overcrowding hospitals and taxing our medical infrastructure if it got a foothold. Thing is, this species of virus loves to come out with a new debut every few years that’s super hopped up and knows how to kill people via respiratory failure. They also travel across the globe quite well. Virology is a strange thing. I just had a patient a few weeks ago that tested positive for coronavirus HKU1 here in the west coast. Which, is pretty crazy if you read this wiki. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_coronavirus_HKU1 It was only discovered after outbreak in China in 2005 and since then has slowly creeped its way across the ocean to the East coast, and then onto everywhere else. It’s kind of awesome/terrifying that even in 2020 there are new viruses popping up we have never seen before. Our world is a snot.

And this is all so basic that they obviously never even played at their dumb cosplay in the woods with their dumb cosplay friends. My one and only real Air Force "combat" deployment was as an augmentee to an Army unit in Aghanistan. All of us Air Force cats got the standard infantry field gear, then went through a couple weeks of combat training at Ft Dix before shipping out. Almost every single thing Richard Bong and the others mentioned (except the groin pouch issue) came up in the first two days. Most of us had no idea how to properly wear a drop leg holster, or the correct positioning of an assault pack, etc, but we figured it out real fast after we had to move/shoot/communicate. There's nothing quite like getting your pistol jammed up in your asscrack because the holster was too low and loose when you had to sprint with it. Followed by cinching it tighter and turning it into a tourniquet. otoh, I'm glad that those clowns clearly just dress up for special events. I'd be more concerned if they actually took the time to figure out what they're doing.

If you're taking antibiotics then it's not a flu, as the flu is a viral infection (and therefore mostly untreatable). If you have the flu symptoms and also feel like hot garbage all over then good chance you got the flu.

The coronaviridae have been around for ages, and have been responsible for a number of respiratory virus outbreaks over the past many years. I think that one poster’s point about maybe we just didn’t know about coronavirus in this form yet, it’s kind of right. We didn’t know about this strain. There’s so many strains of coronavirus and we probably don’t know about many of them until they pop up an epidemic like this, or like HKU1. The virus can do this because in the world of viruses it’s a big boy with plenty of room and mechanisms to mutate and adapt. On the scale of Contagion movie epidemic? I dunno I imagine it’s a 3/10 for now, and thankfully winter is ending, not beginning. Which is good. We kind of have to see how quickly it escalates to figure out that N of infectivity thing. I also am pretty sure that since coronavirus is an enveloped virus (meaning it has like a moisture requiring lipid membrane around itself) it is very hard to become airborne because the envelope dries out and inactivated the virus. It requires spread by secretions, or getting sneezed on/touching snot. That isn’t like a guarantee of slow transmission though, look at Ebola. Flu season is always pretty busy at the hospital and it always tears me up inside to take care if someone with the flu who’s gotten a bad roll and had their lungs fill with fluid or multiple organs shut down. It’s so preventable. A lot of people get it and just have the flu, but there’s really no predicting who will get absolutely hosed by it. Year after year it’s either “bad” or “meh”. I think it depends on which H and N particle makes up the flu that year. Some combinations are just extremely deadly, others are weak sauce. This year has been bad, but not as bad as two years ago when our hospital literally was putting people in hallways or walkways in the ER. We have had some radical awful deaths in totally healthy 20-30 year olds this year. One just up and died 4 hours after walking into the ER with a fever. A few others have required ECMO and full multi organ life support for a week. I mean these were healthy people my age. it’s been scary enough to make me impress on every person I know to get the flu shot ASAP. Still not nearly as bad as two years ago though.

The thing I notice is the guys wearing huge add on pouches at their sides, if you widen your profile too it becomes a pain to move through doors, sit in vehicles, move through close country and so on. Ditto with double layers of pouches on front which also makes you stick up when in the prone. poo poo that's only sitting in the pouches through gravity that'll fall out as soon as they do any work. Shemaghs with the ends all lose that will get flap away, and having their gear done in a maze of straps that make it hard to get it off in a hurry. The first thing I'd do if those guys turned up to an exercise is let them navigate through the biggest patch of bush lawyer I could find and let them get all hooked up. Plus if you add too many pouches you can't find all your poo poo, especially in the dark. Thanks for the info about viruses/ epidemic stuff as well, much appreciated.

We did the same in both the 101 and (iirc) the 173rd, as well as a spare tourniquet in the right calf pocket (and sometimes a third in the right shoulder), and both definitely went dangerous places. IFAK location was standardized because in most cases it's someone else that has to find it to shove tampons in the bloody new rear end in a top hat someone just installed in your abdomen. Also the canteen pouch on the right is for nods not a canteen so gg 1ID I guess
