gh0stpinballa posted:helsing do you hew more to epstein as kind of franchise manager of his end of the blackmail network or do you think matt christman's take is correct, that he was a kind of cutout directed by his handlers, with very little agency over e.g choice of target? where would ghislaine fit into that? compelled by the idea that she acted as his handler when she joined the enterprise. explains why she has been afforded so much protection, also explains why no dead mans switch was triggered (assuming there was no body swap). This is something I'm still mulling over and so far it feels like we don't have enough information to say anything definitive. It does seem like Epstein have some specific focuses - many of his prominent American targets and friends seem to be affiliated with the Democratic party and/or the tech industry. Is that because these are just the kind of people that Epstein could reach and who he was most comfortable around or was that somehow assigned to him? I honestly don't know. It might have been a mix of both: he mostly managed his day to day affairs without supervision but was sometimes given specific tasks, or he had a broad mandate to pursue a general goal such as cultivating and maintaining political influence over certain parts of the tech and philanthropy sectors. Then again, I also think its possible (though not my preferred explanation) that he had intelligence connections but was actually more of a self made man than we realize. If Epstein did have a mission then I suspect it was somehow tied up in the clandestine relationship between Israel, Saudi Arabia and American intelligence. This relationship has become better publicized in recent years but it goes back decades and when you read about the "Safari Club' in the 1970s or the BCCI scandal you'll immediately get strong Epstein vibes. The BCCI in particular seems like something we should be looking to for a better understanding of the world Epstein traveled in. So building on my previous post about Hoover, I suspect that men like Epstein might have helped provide some of the glue that held together the awkward partnership between clandestine forces in America, Israel and Saudi Arabia. Having an unlimited supply of dark money, weapons, humans and drugs were probably incredibly useful for fighting against the influence of the Soviets and other hostile groups. By the way, I had the chance to give Ghost Stories For The End of the World a listen and enjoyed the first episode.

yeah i second that about BCCI, we should do a deeper dive into that itt because, as with epstein, it's an absolutely perfect example of how people at that level of power operate. and there are so many branching lines of inquiry too, lots to explore. thanks for the kind words dude, next ep coming soon.

What does anybody here know about Craig J. Spence, and his call boy ring? It always seemed like there was more to that story - his interview and suicide note are enough to give you the creeps already - , but from what I can tell information is either very scarce, or, if more abundant, than from dubious sources.

quote:Over the past few years the Department of Defense has been intensifying its study of the global security situation, U.S. force posture, and future defense requirements. The National Defense University contributes to this dialog through Strategic Assessment, an annual publication which applies the expertise of this institution through the leadership of its interdisciplinary research arm, the Institute for National Strategic Studies, with the assistance of specialists from elsewhere in government and academe. Offering such analyses, in both general and particular areas of interest to the national security community is an important aspect of the NDU mission. This volume examines various approaches that the United States might adopt to shape the strategic environment of the future. The current environment is characterized by instability and change. The U.S. Government needs to apply the full range of options at its disposal to achieve national goals and ensure the peace and stability required to preserve our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. But such options must be studied and conceptualized for years (and in some cases, decades) in advance to take advantage of the opportunities presented by a changing global environment. The recent Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) recommended a series of defense posture changes. This volume reviews these recommendations and takes the next analytical step, to propose what is entailed by such changes. Strategic Assessment 1998: Engaging Power for Peace should prove useful beyond the defense establishment, to all readers with an interest in national security affairs.
