I wonder about the next Olympian niche. We've got -Weak & Charmed -Doom, Blade Rifts & Offense Up -Critical hits and stronger Casts -Deflection & Defense Up -Poison, Festive Fog & Health-based bonuses (some limited healing options & extra defense) -Various speed-based boons (whether increasing your own mobility and attack speed or lowering enemies') -Knockback & better treasure -Lightning, all of the lightning -A whole lot of general improvements at a cost of health and imposed restrictions I'm at least doubting "life siphon" effects given the kind of game this is (although something like "phantom health" that ticks down constantly might work depending on implementation).

I used to pick up the Artemis cast to stick a boss with it and get the bonus damage, but even that really disrupts my game flow. I'm sure there's some ultra damage combos where you just press the cast button and the screen clears, but it can't be as satisfying. I'm the same. It seems like even if they're really powerful, it's still an extra layer of resource management to think about when I usually have enough on my hands dodging around the screen trying to avoid attacks and traps and watch enemies for tells. I do use them on bosses and priority targets because I love a good damage multiplier but that's all the micro I wanna do

Well, I done hosed up. Finally beat the Hydra and made it all the way to dad, only to gently caress up on the second form and then after dying (after Hades is within a few rocket hits) realize I should have just...run in the sunburst thing. Argh! Oh well, back to bribing Meg.

Also killing the last boss in his final phase in less than 10 seconds is actually very satisfying.

I had an unfinished run, just about done with Styx, so I did that and lo and behold I got my first clear. I don't think they nerfed the boss as much as I just managed to finally cobble together a ridiculously broken build. I hope it saves everything somewhere but basically I had an explosive Hera bow with the two arrow upgrade and a ludicrous amount of +crit and cast effects, and two extra dashes.

So long, explosive fire. Too much crowd control power for the rail to handle. ...Also, Demeter is a bit worrying. Mite wintry for Persephone to not be in the underworld, innit?

Uhh... did they massively increase the poison damage from the enemies in the last area? Like to an absolutely insane degree? 5 damage per tick and seemingly 60 ticks per second, I went from full HP to dead in the blink of an eye

Demeter definitely has some interesting boons so far.

Got a Demeter Duo on the first run, Demeter + Artemis. Requires Demeter's Cast which basically summons an allied Brimstone-type for a continuous beam, which can rack up damage really fast on slow/unmoving enemies (but is pretty weak against fast/constantly moving ones unless you can trick them into following on the beam's path).

Game is noticeably but not overwhelmingly harder due to the tweaks. Grandma is very cool and the new spear seems interesting when I finally get the bloods for it. And pops has instituted his most evil, vicious oppression yet: a fishing minigame.

It's definitely just a little harder. Shops are more expensive. Boons went from 150 to 200 and Hammers went from 200 to 250, which is more than it sounds on paper. There's definitely a reason to skip shops if you're not desperate for an upgrade now.

The spear upgrade that makes the dash hit 3 times is amazing. That + higher base damage from Zagreus' spear + Aphrodite's boon + Chaos's attack up boon = 300+ damage on each dash attach, which are both very fast and have great range. I beat Thanatos 30 to 3 when he showed up. I wanted to try out the rail, with frost on attack and the boon that makes a nova when frost is maxed, but I guess the game decided I just wasn't allowed to have fun that run because I died in the final area with 5 boons total, after taking them literally every chance I got. Just room after room after room of darkness/money as the choice.

There's some weird interaction where charmed enemies can damage you for absurd amounts in specific scenarios, I've lost runs to getting one-shot a few times. Looking at the bug fixes in the update notes it doesn't look like they've addressed it yet, I've just been avoiding charm effects completely until they do.

Demeter frost debuff seems pretty strong. It works on bosses and stacks up to 10 times, so it really helps you just brute force damage race down the harder ones.

Still at work and haven't tried it out yet, but I'm bummed by the patch notes. Sounds like they nerfed a ton of my favorite things. Really don't think the game needed to be harder, if that's what they were trying to accomplish.

Really don't think the game needed to be harder, if that's what they were trying to accomplish. The enemy/boss changes seem all cool and good, as are all the fixes and things. The Coin changes (and Coin Purse nerf) and Shops + Styx shop seems a little nasty. I felt like it was fine before, and most of the time I saved up for an extra Diamond/Titan's Blood anyways. It kinda feels like "gently caress you" to get a Shop as the only exit, at least before you could probably buy something A few things probably needed nerfed and I wasn't surprised to see Aphrodites, Artemis, and Broken Spearpoint hit with the bat. What's the cooldown on it anyways? Myrmidon probably needed a slight nerf but I'd have rather the downside got amplified instead. Chaos Shield but it was real good. I don't feel that Zag shield should have been nerfed, it wasn't even very good, but glad to see Zeus aspect get a bit of love. Adamant Rail didn't seem like it needed the slow-on-hit removed, but then again it's my least favorite weapon unless I'm getting a Triple Special + Rocket build going. I imagine the Adamant Rail on-hit effect change is mostly just due to Demeter coming in.

Xaris posted:Yeah, not sure why they felt like Fountains should be nerfed (but buffable via Contractor). Seems like it's mostly a hit to new-players starting from scratch. I had the resources to buff that fountain right back up, but you're probably right in that this patch makes the learning curve more difficult. I remember how frustrating the game was before I transcended into the demigod-like being you see before you The increased shop prices are a little too much. In the first floor at the very least I'm going to skip the shop at all times until the guaranteed one right before the boss. And many times I'll avoid any unavoidable ones until Styx. One of the best things about Hades is that there are no wasted rooms. You get something that benefits you inside or outside of your run (or both, with Contractor upgrades) from every room. The only time you can waste a room is if you don't have enough gold to buy anything at a shop you're forced into, which is more likely to happen now.
