Not in the base game. There was Custom TF which was a mod that may have added it. Pyro did have a rocket launcher in both the quake mod and TFC

For a hypothetical TF3, one of the characters could be The Last Robot. Maybe one who managed to develop free will and deserted Grey Mann’s army.

I think Miss Pauline was supposed to be the Civilian or at least function similar to how he worked in that specific game mode. Its been awhile but I think there was a mode where you had to get the civilian from one side of a map to the other while the other team tried to stop you.

Honestly if they were to do a full pass over the code and all the models to make the game run super well and call it tf3 i'd be okay with that, I think.

Yeah, basically do a code and asset cleanup, port over existing cosmetics (redo them in-house if you have to, whatever) and let people carry-over hats in their backpacks. All weapons unlocked by default, have (only new) crates be craftable into scrap for either crafting cosmetics, or trading for stranges, reskins, etc. Weapons shouldn't be drops or have to be unlocked.

That became payload because valve playtesting it found out that most of the time it was really, really boring for whoever got to be the civilian.

Unfun implementation of an ice power in an FPS: creating a wall.

What would be fun: deployable ice slick zone, where your control over your momentum is the same as midair.

Unfun implementation of ice powers in an FPS: your main attack being gradually robbing your opponent of control until they are completely stunned, at which point they have nothing to do but watch your teehee cutie waifu~ character charge a one-shot kill through your loving skull

And also you can go invulnerable

Yeah, TF3/TF2 Remastered would be a great opportunity to give the cosmetic lineup a much-needed culling.

I'm sure it would have to be one-way but I'm not sure why they would have to be untradable unless they already were before transferal.

it's the sort of thing you'd do if you wanted to take the emphasis off hat baroning and put it back on the gameplay - but valve makes $$$ off it so assuming that that would be valve's goal seems wildly optimistic

Personally I say Valve should just murder the cosmetics market by releasing universal Strangifiers, Killstreak Kits, and an item that confers a random Unusual Effect on items, it's the kind of thing that would print money

part of this probably just stems from the fact that I am not a fan at all of the idea of digital only items holding monetary value to any significant extent

Exploration is ill-advised.
Funny thing is for a while I thought the Civilian was going to be hinted to be Dracula, helpless and requiring an escort in the daylight.

While the Heavy is the game mascot, always thought the Soldier would probably fit more easily into a Smash moveset. Especially with a Rocket Jump(er) up-special and Market Gardener down aerial. Final Smash is probably either a Kritzkrieg or maybe a bugle charge of the entire team.

They already have a license to print money, every time one if those things sells on the community market they get 15%.

Reminder that Overwatch 2 is not an actual sequel and will not change the existing Overwatch in any way - to a point that Overwatch 1 and 2 players will be in the same matchmaking pool.

Overwatch 2 is basically a single player expansion, or at least that’s how it was presented at Blizzcon.

I mainly play gunboats soldier unless I’m just messing around, so I gotta ask, what is wrong with rocket jumping? As far as I can tell it works as intended.

Face stabs will always be a thing as long as lag compensation is a thing. While it’s janky I think fixing it would bring down the overall smoothness of the gun play.

It works as intended because they're replicating an unintended mechanic from earlier Source engine games.

If rocket jumping was designed on purpose from the start, you wouldn't have the "don't press W or you kill your momentum" situation. It's not that terrible, but it's unintuitive in that "this is just how things turned out because the physics were being made with other things in mind" sort of way that nobody would come up with in a design document.

Meet the Soldier highlights rocket jumping, and a lot of his items revolve around it. Its physics may be wonky but its absolutely intended.

Rocket Jumping itself is intended in TF2, but is the result of turning source engine wonkiness into a feature.

In a TF3, they'd probably make it easier to learn how to rocket jump in a straight line, but preserve the fun steering-with-A-and-D-and-mouselook controls as an "advanced" technique.

I imagine they'd accomplish this by refining how WASD work so that W doesn't cap your speed. And possibly making it so if you just shoot straight down while jumping and holding W (the naive thing every novice jumper tries), the rocket would be tweaked slightly behind you to launch you at an ideal angle -- but in other circumstances, you could still place your rocket wherever you want it for advanced jumping.

What I'm doing here is called "game design fanfic".
