kinda depends on the legion. some are super war focused and alot of the chaos ones are mostly so brain hosed that they can't do poo poo but pray or kill or plot. i know the blood angels used to be pretty refined and all of them were artists to some degree. ultrasmurfs tend to be well read.

Based on what I read in Dark Imperium, the Blood Angels are now all no-bullshit vampires, replete with comical attire, regalia, the whole nine yards these days.

Can't really see them gallivanting around the Imperium in Hawaiian shirts and a casual hover-sarcophagus in their carry-on luggage anymore.

The Genevieve mention in Vermintide is great though.
My fancanon is that she survived the End Times and is relaxing somewhere in the Mortal Realms.

Pretty sure Salamanders tend to spend a lot of time in the smithy and also on Nocture itself.

Just started re-reading the Nightlords trilogy (it's been a while). I'd forgotten how funny that blook is right off the bat.

The whole exchange after Uzaz has been complaining about the Blood Angels insulting them by sending initiates after them and then Cyrion having to switch off his comms so they don't hear him laughing when he finds out Uzaz got wounded by one is perfect and sets the tone right away

The audio book versions are pretty good as well. Only the first 2 out on Audible so far, but they've released the third on BL so I assume it's going to be released to Audible shortly when someone remembers to do it

They are the best. Read Lords of Silence after for an equally cool Nurgle warband. Totally different feel and tone, but the 2nd best chaos SM portrayal after the NL trilogy in my opinion.

My favorite exchange out of that book comes from that part.

"The Champion showed no reaction. He didn’t even move. ‘I knew that warrior,’ he said with solemn care. ‘He was Caleus, born of Newfound, and I know he died as he lived: with courage, honour, and knowing no fear.’

Xarl swept his chainsword across the scene, gesturing at the prone forms of First Claw. ‘I know all of these warriors. They are First Claw, and I know they’ll die as they lived: trying to run away.’"

I just finished Flight of the Eisenstein and I'm moving on in order to Fulgrim. Is that the best path or is there some benefit to go out of order at this point?

Also trying to save a little money I bought the 2nd "omnibus" that also contains short stories and Angel Exterminatus. Is reading both of those two books together worthwhile?

There is no benefit for jumping around apart from making some of the story lines easier to remember. Plus there are some that you can skip because the are garbage. Nemesis, Battle for the Abyss can be skipped for being rubbish and The Outcast Dead can be skipped for being retconned due to timelines being extended.

If you're trying to save money, read all the books by Abnett, ADB, and Chris Wraight. Also read Thousand Sons by Graham McNeill. For everything else, go read the Lexicanum summaries, you're not going to miss anything great.

Hi, I'm D-Pad and I am a biblioholic. Please send help.

My LE Sons of the Selenar made it in today, the first novella in the Siege of Terry series. I'll let you guys know how it is in a couple days.

BL just announced a limited edition of Horusian Wars Insurrection next week. This has led me to buy a LE copy of Resurrection, the first book in the series, off of ebay in anticipation of LE Insurrection because I have a pathological need for complete LE series.

On some level I realize warhammer fiction is pulp trash, but I've fallen in love with it. Something about the size and condition of the universe and the people in it just really loving grabs me.

Thanks to you both! I'll stick to the reading order, and thanks for the skip recommendations as well. I was planning to at least try to read the ones recommended in the OP, and skip a few I already heard were the worst (Battle for the Abyss, Descent of Angels), and maybe ask about some others. But yeah, Galaxy in Flames and Flight of the Eisenstein have already worn me down a little vs. the stuff I'm used to reading (Abnett), I don't think I can handle the truly bad stuff.
