tight aspirations posted:I don't know if it's true or not, but I remember reading somewhere the big P would sell sketch paper with his signature on the bottom so people could draw their own picasso picture. I think it was a reaction to the commercialism of his work, or something. Picasso may have done this, but probably the most egregious example was Salvador Dalí, who signed tens of thousands (his own agent estimated hundreds of thousands) of sheets this way, ostensibly for his publishers to make new 'signed prints'. It becomes an incredibly huge problem for provenance and authentication, because you can have 'signed prints' produced long after the artist's health began to fail, or even after his death. The sheer number of sheets involved and the breadth of his business contracts make it worse, because who knows who he signed what for, or where the blanks might have wound up?

Milo and POTUS posted:I've got white whales I'm not even going to bother with because I discovered them independently and they weren't pop culture related so there's no chance anyone's ever seen them Oooh, hark at me with my independently discovered white whales! Only kidding, give it a go - you'd be surprised at what people in this thread can dig up! (Although nobody knows mine, i've tried DOZENS of sites now and only found one other person who knew what I was on about, and THEY didn't know the name of the book either!) In fact, i'll repost mine just in case fresh eyes are viewing this: A children's book about a young boy who decides to turn himself into a petrol pump as he is unhappy with his life. This slowly happens when he runs away from home, sticks 2 fingers in his ear, is made to swallow an abacus and more weird stuff. At the end his parents come along and pump petrol from him without knowing it is their son. The abacus swallowing is part of his transformation into a real petrol pump as it forms his display. He also gets violently kicked in the shins by his first customer when he is unable to produce any petrol due to nerves. I know this sounds like a fever dream and for years I was convinced I'd made it up, but thanks to this thread and DuckDuckGo, I found a goodreads thread where someone was asking about the exact same book. It may have been part of a collection of short stories too as I don't remember the story being very long.

I don't even know if the building exists in the same state or even if it exists anymore. Like I said, it's pretty much a needle in a haystack. There's a book I read in the early 90s, probably from the 70s? It was a hardback book with probably fire and woods on the cover, in that educational For-A-School-Library style that screams "There's a moral to this story, and it's always that the kids were bad/wrong and some adult sets them straight". Anyways, I can't remember the title, but I do remember the plot. It's set in a National Forest, and you've got this juvenile delinquent that a park ranger might have caught smoking or something. Anyways, this John Wayne-adjacent park ranger is furious, and treats the kid like poo poo. Then a forest fire starts, and they're running and hiding from it together, heroics, blah blah blah, kid ain't so bad, park ranger ain't so bad, there's a meeting of minds, and the park ranger starts to approve of the kid....and at the end, it turns out the forest fire wasn't started by the kid, it was started by the park ranger's cigarette he hadn't fully extinguished, maybe under a fire-watch tower? I seem to remember the fire-watch tower being important, and there was possibly a horse that the ranger rode? It's driven me mad in searching for it; I found some possibly relevant Park Ranger related books, but they also seemed to lean towards the homo-erotic, which I don't remember from this particular story. Then again, I was plus-minus ten years old, and really wasn't particularly good at subtext. Anyone have any sort of lead on it?

I think this was the end of a movie but it may have been a TV show. All I remember is it was an outside scene and one character was saying to another something along the lines of “you have no idea where your life will go from here.” Then they definitely said “how EXCITING!” Saw it last year but I don’t have the impression it was brand new. Sounds corny but it was inspirational as heck.

I have two books I cannot find. I think I posted them in TBB a few years ago without luck (apologies if they were answered and I simply missed them). The first, an airplane lands with no-one on board. There are scorpion like creatures that escape from it and go on to kill humans and take over the world. I remember they seemed to have a different life cycle and were theorized to be parasites from a different dimension. The end of the book reveals this has been a history book, and they are in the last fortress of humanity that has survived the scorpion things. The cover of the book was kind of yellow/orangey and had a sci-fi scorpion on. The second, I thought the main character and book title had his name as Ptolemy, but that hasn't helped me find it so may be incorrect. He has a coin that he puts into a machine and it is actually a robot created hundreds or thousands of years ago and through predictions knew this would happen. It seems to respond to the main character, but this is said to be only reactions to events and conversations it knew would happen so it is simply pre-programmed responses. I don't remember the story after this, but I think it had to do with saving the world with a magic robot buddy.

I've been looking for a music video but I can't find it anywhere. I believe it was played on Fox Kids all the time, not sure if it was part of the "Fox Kids Hits" line. I think it was about a girl that hated tomatoes and kept trying to run away from them, but they kept popping up and eventually raining from the sky. By the end of it, she ends up buried in tomatoes and emerges from the pile. She might have been a cartoon and then tranforms into the singer after getting buried? I think my brain is making up memories now.

Pretty good posted:Sounds a lot like it could be something by Paul Jennings e: while I'm here. I'm looking for a video of weird puppets singing about school. I remember it being very harsh - that's the best way I can explain it. There is a bit where the puppets go "ahh wooowooo, ah wooowooo" The only lyrics I remember are "hello boy, hello girl, welcome to the real world" and "there are rules". It's an old youtube video that's might hard to search for. ^ That is what I WOULD have written but I did some deep diving myself just now and FOUND IT! Here was my final little process that got me to the video: 1. I think the lyrics were actually... "little boy little girl" 2. Google them. Nothing. 3. Youtube them, nothing. 4. Google video search them. And success! I guess google video search picks up text on non-youtube pages which have embedded youtube videos on them. Somebody had written the lyrics out and posted the youtube video to there weird rear end blog. http://educationalabuse.blogspot.com/2008/10/school-real-purpose.html About how schools are evil? And the last post was in 2010? It's such a strange little nothing part of the internet that just sits there. Like, I probably am the first to visit it in ages - and I'm not even going to dig into wtf it's about. 5. Here's the video: youtube.com/watch?v=zPMm5RE6rj0 6. Also, check out the comments. Somebody 12 years ago was looking for it for 8 years previous. lol. 7. Finally, wtf is this video. How did I even find it in the first place in 2010. I remember playing it on student radio at like 3am. e2: last little bit of researching. a youtube comment sent to me another channel which gave me the name ingredient x entertainment which took me to this page: http://www.digitalpuppetry.com/main.htm and it looks like the brother did the puppets and the other brother did the song and later did stuff like the tales of mere existence? I think we're dealing with creative internet people who were putting stuff on the net well before youtube. there is a particular aesthetic to all this but any description of it escapes this poster's mind. goodnight. So this thread found my last Hail Mary white whale in about five minutes, let's see if it can help me again. There was a cartoon when I was a kid in the 90s that involved a spaceship. The show mixed CGI for the ship scenes and hand-drawn animation for the character scenes. All I remember is that the hero ship was white/silver and had a weird four-way turret on the top where there was a barrel sticking out every 90 degrees. I know that's not much to go on but it's all that's survived the ages of my brain.

My white whale right now is an SA thread that is many years old and probably useless even if I did find it because of the death of Waffleimages. It was a Photoshop thread that I could have sworn was titled "Boring video games", but that search doesn't work. I do remember a few of the 'shops that were particularly memorable, like "Thousands of Bs" (yes just the letter B) for the Nintendo DS, that was a riff off someone elses' shop of "Thousands of Bees" being a video game. One in particular was the Doom logo flipped into becoming "WOOD". A game about antique-ing with a catchphrase of "you're never getting those hours of your life back". It was a great thread.

An animated show I watched as a kid in the early 90s I guess. There was some kind of society of creatures, either some kind of humanoid people creatures but it may have been animals, and they lived and had adventures on an island. I recall in one episode at least one of them got stuck in quicksand. Just offshore there was either an oil rig facility or oil tanker of some kind. There were at least a pair of bad guys out there who hosed with the island people. One of the bad guys ate metal nuts and bolts?! I am fairly certain that before the closing credits of each episode, the camera would zoom out further and further until it was a view of the planet from space. I have a really strong memory of a movie from when I was a little kid that I just can’t place. This would have been in theaters in the early to mid 90’s. Probably ‘92-‘94ish. I remember wandering into the wrong theater after going to the bathroom. The scene I remember vividly was a pilot, wearing a full flight suit (helmet, visor, breathing mask w/ the tubes and everything) who must have crashed or ejected. He was in a river filled with green algae in the bottom of a canyon. It also may have been an IMAX/Omnimax situation, I would have been around 4-6 years old at the time, so memories from then are a little fuzzy in my booze soaked 30-something year old brain.
