I've got an issue pertaining to LOD models. I'm playing Old World Blues and the Dome and the Forbidden Zone domes don't appear until you're directly in front of them. Otherwise they are invisible and you can see the distant LODs for shapes beyond them.

I've been running XLODGen to generate distant LODs and for the most part it works fine, but it looks like the basegame LODs for certain objects have vanished so there's nothing to actually transition between from a Distant LOD to the actual model.

Now one thing I have done is merged the esps for the various LOD mods. I still keep the mods activated so that the textures load but all the esps are merged. Could this be what's causing the issue?

God, I didn't realize how up its own rear end New Vegas Bounties 3 was. Sure, I'll follow this jackass around on his ghost of Christmas past bullshit and then later sit in a cutscene for at least five minutes so far as I watch bounty hunters try and fail to massacre a bunch of civilians. Stick with 1 and 2 here, folks. 3 adds nothing to it.

Also it not only kills your companions if you ignore the notice not to take them, but it fucks with the save file to permanently delete them so even cheats can't resurrect them.

Umm, wow, that is incredibly petty there. Honesty I was turned off of NV Bounties and quickly deleted it as soon as my character asked about the Bounty Hunter guys backstory and got just incredibly over the top and gory exposition that was massively out of place for a game like NV, which does have some pretty dark parts but nothing close to... that, ugh.

Apparently, at the end, you need to listen to the bad guy's over verbose speech without A-buttoning through it or else the cutscene will break and you'll be stuck watching the bounty hunters shoot at nothing for forever. Which is fun! I kind of enjoyed 1, as a way to go to places I wouldn't otherwise, and 2 was at least okay but they really overestimated how much I cared about the metaplot. I don't give a gently caress about Marko. In fact, you have to work for the bad guy for a bit if you want him to take you to this lovely extended space where NVB3 takes place. I decided, to hell with that, and shot the messenger, and this is where the mod commits the most grievious sin you can in New Vegas: the guy was essential. The game where you can kill Literally Everyone. Smarmy gently caress with his Ghost of Christmas Past schtick. Turned out, hey, he was the villain he was leading me to get anyway IN DISGUISE so what I did, which was right in the grand scheme of things, was a No No because the modders didn't account for it.

And then at the end when I figured 'well, they want me to go fight him, I'll fight him instead of leaving this town to a murderer super lunatic,' I got a perk that no-takebacks makes my weapon handling horrible. So you get punished for shooting the big bad guy you came here in the first place to kill.

If the modders were trying to emulate fallout 3, they succeeded -- no dialogue options, most of the areas are poorly lit caves or epic meme The Government Bad Hurrh old world stuff, and enemies that are either no threat or have boosted irresistible damage to make them seem scary and invalidate most builds. Also, it is too wordy. I don't need everyone's story. The guy needs an editor bad. Play 1 and 2 for amusing little sidequests. 3 is utter dogshit.

I didn't even realize they killed ED-E. :(

I want more mods that fill in the emptier spaces of the map, so I use Living Wasteland and Mojave Raiders. But I'd love to see more stuff done with the farmland north of Vegas or especially something further east near the bend in the Colorado River. The giant crater with the unique gatling gun is about the only thing up there.

Jesus! Jesus Christ! Say his name! Jesus! Jesus! Come down now!

Yeah the opportunity is there to fill in the world, it just so happens that the most productive modders work alone and so their work tends to reflect their particular vanities. There was that one mod in particular that added what seemed like dozens of new locations in (usually) sensible places, but the combat balance was woefully off and every object was named, interactive, and useless. A something World? I forget.

NV Bounties was notable for being, from a gameplay perspective, quite seamless, and it provided no more or less than the particular skinner box pleasures that bounty hunting in open world games always brings. The writing was extremely dodgy / derivative and very MRA at times, but the content was generally unobtrusive and added something. This last one... sounds like either he decided to indulge himself or ran into the limits of his modding powers.

It's insane to think that a big project like Boulder Dome could produce so much and then self-sabotage itself so thoroughly, but such is the mod scene. Collaborative hobbyist projects live in the most hostile environments. Typically the stuff that's released is made by savants and, well, savants are the type of people you'd expect. It's doubly a shame because releasing that kind of work is a big loving deal, if you're looking to break into the industry and get paid. Seems like a waste.

I always had fantasies of making my own mods to a higher standard but I have neither the time nor the acumen and actually designing every part of a game experience is pretty nightmarish - the default mode is emptiness and grind.

There’s a bit in B3 where I talked to the bounty hunter ally about how he got the new office set up, and then I asked the NCR guy who was funding him the same question. They both had slightly different stories and I was thinking oh, cool, I can go back to the first guy and ask him about the inconsistency.

No dialogue options. Upon recollection I’m not positive it was a consciously written gap or just inconsistent writing.

And yeah there’s a lot of “this fiend is so crazy she cuts off men’s testicles!!” The named but completely unadorned, unmodified knife you get from her is called The Emasculator. At the moment I shrugged it off as whatever and sold it.

I just want more stuff to do. :(

chitoryu12

They're all uneven in their own ways. NV 1 is just a series of pop culture rip-offs with extremely shaky writing. NV 2 is written better and slightly more original but even the creator admitted that he responded to criticisms of the first one's low difficulty by just hurling tons of enemies at you (the first bounty requires you to take on a whole squad by yourself in a lovely area to fight in). And then NV 3 is just dumb and spiteful.

...you know, looking at the background note for I think the third bounty, the Fiend torturing the NCR soilders kinda forshadowed the TMI background for the Typist. But, yes, thanks for the tip to uninstall New Vegas Bounties III. Which is a shame, because I am enjoying the variety of scum and villany I'm hunting for New Vegas Bounties I.

Though I do have another question: what are everyone's favorite choice of player homes? I've yet to find one that I love, but the Living series of mods are def. a step up from Vanilla. If just for the lighting!

I tend to use Lucky 38 Suite Reloaded combined with Run the Lucky 38 to turn myself into the ultimate source of all power in New Vegas. Use some 10 Luck to make bank at blackjack to help finance casino upgrades and eventually get more money than you know what to do with every single day.

There's a good Lucky 38 overhaul that isn't ludicrous like that older mod. I've been using it and I think it's called Lucky 38 Revamped?

It adds a dead money vending machine and lots of storage space and that's all I need.

I ended up having lower Luck normally but I put on some items to increase it. I also use that one mod with usable cigarettes and cigars and you have a chance of finding a Lucky Cigarette in a pack, which gives you +1 Luck when you're smoking it. That ended up being enough to get me to 10, at which point the gambling actively cheats in your favor. The reason the game normally puts a cap on how much you can win (unless you mod it out) is because it's so unfair that you can farm unlimited money with it.

I usually roll with this upgrade to the Sink. The Sink is already the most OP house in a video game, so you don't need much more.

Here's a fun riddle: I lost the ability to zoom in with weapons. I know it's related to UIO / UI Organizer, because it's fine when I turn it off, but the only thing that I have installed that use it are Loot Menu and the "Just X" bunch of mods. And neither of them cause it because even should I turn them off, the problem persists, but when I turn off UIO, I can zoom in again. I'm not exactly expecting help, so much as I want to whine. :v:

e: As always, uninstalling then reinstalling everything fixed it. :shepicide:
