Some simple math. Start with a population of 1,000,000. Let's assume 25% of the population gets infected so we have 250,000 cases. If we assume 25% of the infected require some sort of medical treatment and 3% will die we have 62,500 people needing hospitalization/treatment and 7,500 people die. Of course there are probably a lot more infected then reported cases so if we halve those numbers we're still left with a 9-11 death toll for every million people. e.I pulled these numbers out of my arse of course so who knows what fish flu will actually end up doing.

the really dangerous possibility is that if it spreads in numbers that large it can easily mutate and get worse. the initial wave of spanish influenza wasn't the part that killed everyone.
