What is the point of talking about Hunter Biden? How is this related to Trump's defense against the Ukraine allegations?

I've always thought that they don't really want to call Hunter Biden because it would just make the trial go on longer and they know that honestly they don't have anything. Just bitching about how they can't call Hunter Biden is a better choice media-wise. Hunter could cry on the stand and admit Daddy got him the job, but.... so what?

Think of how many politicians kids get a leg up on their poo poo because of who mommy or daddy is. No one wants that gravy train hosed with and calling Hunter highlights that issue more than anything else. There will be some pissed politicians if a law about your children getting patronage or what constitutes patronage comes out of this.

I'm not even sure what makes crackhead Hunter Biden this criminal mastermind that is so important it's worth holding up hundreds of millions of dollars to Ukraine. Bondi just said "potential appearance of a conflict of interest". Okay? What was he even supposed to have done? They don't even have a crime!

What is this drunken defense?

Giuliani was working as a private attorney, also he was working on defending him against the accusations supported by US intelligence that Russia helped him get elected.

Also, his actions weren't official government policy and he wasn't operating within a political capacity.

loving what?

Edit: "He did all the things you say are crimes but they are not actually crimes" is the defense? What the glorious gently caress is this?!

How has no one pointed out that this is actually the opposite of a defense? If Giuliani was only acting as Trump's personal lawyer, then it reinforces the point that Trump was using his office for personal gain. It would also imply that any documents and witnesses involved with Giuliani's activities can't be covered by executive privilege.

Bondi is making a very powerful, compelling case against American oligarchy here. I'm convinced, of something, I'm not sure how it relates to impeachment, but definitely convinced that American oligarchy is terribly unjust.

You explained it very well. I know the answer is incompetence, but that defense is so terrible and why wouldn't you just go the route of "Nah, he didn't do it, everyone is lying." Instead it's all these bizarre arguments that don't really defend Trump at all.
I think it's plausible deniability's dumb kid brother, plausible process bullshit. If you can come up with a process argument that, no matter how wrong it is, takes more than a sentence to disprove, then you've got a good chance that a large part of the audience has already zoned the gently caress out. And people that zone out on this kind of thing either a) just decide their team was right all along, or b) come to the conclusion that everything's hosed, both sides are wrong, and the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. And both of those happen to work for the Republican position at this point because, you know, their guy is a loving superfund site of crimes and so the public settling on literally anything other than truth goes in the W column for them.

makes sense. Doing what they have done goes against the oath they have to take to become an attorney. You would think they would go after them for that but I can definitely see that they probably want to keep the bar association non partisan.

The Trump "legal team" knowing about the Bolton book would not be illegal, that would be covered by attorney-client privilege. As there is no legal ramification for defending a client you know is guilty, most lawyers will not defend a known guilty client and will go out of their way to not have the client tell them that they are guilty. It is an ethical thing. Privilege only can protect you so far. For example it does not protect when the attorney is involved with a crime or perpetrating a fraud. Which at the very least Cipollone and Sekulow at the very least would have been involved with all of this.

I don't know all of the arcane laws of the Senate but I believe that there are provisions for not being able to knowingly lie to the body. Granted I very seriously doubt that any of these fools will have the feet held to the fire.

Admitting a republican to the bar is like permitting an out and out atheist to be a priest. In a sane world gatekeeping would just stop it.

But the GOP has power and attorneys are craven moral-less cowards who feel no duty to the public - so yea their professional associations ain’t gonna wade into it.
