Same here. Besides looking too busy, the gunplay looks fun enough. Let's hope it turns out good so I finally justify my PC as retro shooter platform since I barely have any modern games on it nowadays (Prey comes to mind as the few).

Everytime I see a trailer for Prodeus, I think that this will be the game to bring the word doomclones back into our lexicon. It makes me excited...to load up Doom 2016 and turn on low resolution, or fire up some mappack with D4D.wad. I know thats unfair, but the aesthetics just seem so close to those of a recent classic that its really distracting.

It doesn't interest me like DUSK or Amidst Evil did, because those were making their own grabbag of poo poo they thought was cool and combining it with new technology. Blood, but combined with Quake? Yes please. Hexed II on drugs, without the terrible puzzles and with detours into Heretic? Bring it on! They promise to make games that resemble the classics as you hoped you could one day play them as a kid, or a different timeline where modern features were available twenty years ago. Thats especially important for evolutionary deadends like Hexed or Blood, because their concept never caught on. So the ability to play something inspired by them is terribly exciting.

If Prodeus just does Doom 2016-but-pixels, then I'm not so hot on it. And that could be an incredibly unfair reading, but these trailers just ain't doing it for me.

Yea, the trailers show very vanilla guns blowing away (with comical gore) totally passive mobs who just stand there or shuffle forwards slowly.

I'll still keep an eye on Prodeus, but the proof's in the pudding.

Weird question, but are their any mods for Doom that will track how fast you’ve beaten a level, like a record breaker stat? I’m not talking par times, just if I want to play E1M1 5 times and see if inter faster each time, trying to break my own records.

Credit where it's due tho, they've been showing off more interesting high-tier guns on their twitter.

last i saw, the enemies in prodeus were practically just reskins of doom ones, so unless they've branched out on that i dunno if i can be super excited about that aspect. i mean i guess if you're going to pretty much do a model swap on another game's enemies you should be picking a good one, but in that case i think i'd rather just load up a big doom map pack with maybe a gameplay tweaking wad or something?

Far as I can tell, their more unique stuff is still heavily WIP and didn't feature in that trailer.

There's the Master Levels Menu Interface that did that but only for the Master Levels themselves, and the stats-keeping only lasts as long as the session.

Generally that's the problem, saving values between different sessions (starting a new game, not loading an old save) is complicated because you've gotta do some weird workarounds to make sure you 1. preserve the value when starting a new game and 2. don't erase the value when loading an old game.

CNDoom is explicitly made for speedrunners but I don't think it has a "best time" tracking, other than an output to a text file https://www.chocolate-doom.org/wiki/index.php/CnDoom

that looks more neat, i can say that much. it's probably one of those situations where they held back all the cool stuff for some reason, whether through it not being done yet or just not wanting to show it off yet, which probably didn't help my initial impressions. i want the game to be cool because i've loved the hell out of amid evil and dusk and want another retro game to chunk through without it being intertwined with chuds or something.

Prodeus has enough cool-looking stuff in it that I wish it had a more cohesive and focused art style than a mishmash of half-remembered styles from half a dozen different eras in an attempt to look vaguely retro.

It may be simple, but the Intermission music from Doom 1 sticks in my head more than any other early FPS tune. It's not as good as a track from ROTT, but it's kinda comforting somehow.

When my family finally got this hot new internet thing we got cable and it was hilarious racking up insane headshots since everyone else was on dial-up so it took a second or two for them to starting moving after they respawned to either side of their tower.

the synthesized version of Grabbag is good, but that's a song that really shines when you hear it played with actual instruments, which kind of puts it in a weird spot for early fps music
