The 2012 autopsy was about how the party was selling out long-term viability in exchange for fragile short term victories. They doubled down and got a huge short term victory. Since then they've been getting their teeth kicked in in state, local, and midterm elections, with young and minority voters swinging ever harder against them. It's possible things turn out differently, but nothing's really contradicted the 2012 predictions so far.

Even when confronted with factual data, transcripts from court cases or House orders... Nope. They're still right. In order: That isn't true. That's fake data. That data is real, but taken out of context. That's liberal propaganda, it's not as bad as it seems... [Continue from Narcissist's Prayer, Line 2] This is why I think our future is going to be a split nation. Eventually, sane people living in densely populated states are going to be sick of being ruled by a 10-20% of the population living in 18 sparsely populated states. This small slice of the population literally has veto power over every single piece of legislation. 10-20% of the population has global veto power, and it isn't even just "any 10-20%" of the population. It's specifically the people living in a certain set of states. Their voting power massively outstrips any other segment of the population. We can't say we're a functional democratic republic when we give that kind of out-sized voting power to a specific population based on geographic region. At some point, densely populated states are just gonna go "gently caress it" and ask to leave. Or just leave. Or at least try to leave.

Midgetskydiver posted:We need to stop trying to figure out how their minds work. Their minds don't work. They are nihilists. Some of them are. Others are just bigots. (“Say what you will about the tenets of National Socialism, but at least it’s an ethos.”) Obama scared them shitless. Never mind that he was conciliatory to a fault; never mind that he didn’t actually change the system much, and that what change he did accomplish is rapidly being rolled back. There was a you-know-what in the White House. Someone other than a straight White Christian male was elected President. Twice. The face of America was no longer White, and that hurt them more than any number of tax hikes or electoral reforms could have. Obama may not have hurt their pocketbooks, but he hurt their pride. And the Democratic Party let it happen. Bipartisanship was only possible as long the Democrats didn’t present any real threat to the dignity of the White Race. But Obama’s victory was proof that the Democrats were willing to accept a Black man as the face of the nation. From their perspective, the Democrats are the ones who shredded the norms, and because of that the Democratic Party must be destroyed. Most posters on D&D are leftists, and many are at least influenced by Marxism, so it’s hard for us to comprehend that this isn’t just a sideshow. Racism is just a tool the capitalist class uses to divide the workers, right? Surely the people with actual power are driven by calculated self-interest, not just paranoid xenophobia! But I honestly think the last four years have shown that’s not really true. The GOP leadership isn’t just using Trump, nor are they cowering in fear of their own voting base. They genuinely like him. They like him because he shares their most cherished belief: That it’s better to burn America to the ground than to share it with Those People. And burning America to the ground is exactly what they’re doing.
