One interesting and potentially good thing about this stuff where Bernie is getting hurt by re-alignment is that it means he might actually do better in regular non-caucus primaries. In 2016 this wasn't the case, but this time around he gets hurt because the non-viable people mostly consolidate with other candidates (whereas that won't happen during a regular primary).

If Bernie was going to underperform like some people have been hinting towards, then this is good that the results won’t get released until people are no longer paying attention and Bernie can move on to New Hampshire, where he’s dominating in the polls.

So normally Iowa has at least a minor winnowing effect and some candidates drop out, but I don't think anyone is going to drop before New Hampshire after this clusterfuck of a caucus. We apparently won't even have results until tomorrow so the normal media cycle that might result in a candidate or two bowing out is disrupted and they're all gonna keep riding on through.

Vote for whoever you sincerely want to be president, don't try and game it out by appealing to some hypothetical swing voter.

Compare this to the reaction from the dem establishment when Obama won IA in 2008. It was a celebratory atmosphere- sure some of the die hard Clinton supporters weren't on board but it was like a coronation of a beloved prince. Now we get Sanders, who will almost surely win, and that same establishment will just shrug and walk away. All because they might have to pay more in taxes. I'm glad to be celebrating with my fellow comrades but man, I was holding out hope that the Party could muster at least a token effort at enthusiasm. I was foolish.
