yeah Hillary Clinton's attacks against Sanders were so rough he gained 8 points in the polls, I bet Trump doubles those numbers easy

Half the nation's eyes are on iowa tonight, a state that really has no merits to being so relevant in the primary in the first place, and they just poo poo all over themselves and roll around in it on public television.

I was precinct secretary in my precinct. Of our 6 delegates we ended up with 3 for Sanders, 2 for Buttigieg, 1 for Biden; the rest were not viable. There were two other precincts caucusing in the high school in other auditoriums, and both had similar distributions. My partner was precinct chair, and just got back from handing in all of our caucus materials to the Party. Of half a dozen other chairs there at the time they all had half or more in favor of Sanders, with a scattering of Buttigieg, then a few Warren and Biden. In the Des Moines metro area at least things are looking good for Bernie. Rural dems around here are way more centrist, so I expect stronger support for Biden, Buttigieg, and Gabbard from them. We determine delegate count by precinct based on historical voter turnout, so I don't think that will skew results too far away from what urban areas are presenting.

ehhh, honestly partisanship is a powerful enough force, and there are so many unknowns, that any democrat probably has roughly the same chance as far as we know. Vote for whoever you sincerely want to be president, don't try and game it out by appealing to some hypothetical swing voter.

I'm hoping that's the case. My candidate is already out (RIP Booker), so I'm not particularly strongly motivated. But damned if Sanders folks don't have some serious myopia. (Like the poster above thinking the communist/socialist label doesn't matter when in fact it will pretty much guarantee Sanders would lose Florida, the one absolute must-win purple state for Trump.)

If turnout was low (we don't know poo poo at this point) it does bode ill for Bernie's theory of electability, yeah. Doesn't mean he can't win though, he'll just have to do it in the normal democrat way through the normal dem coalliton rather than as the head of a mass movement.

Pakled posted:

Four regions of roughly equal pop that go like a month apart, randomly select the order, whoever goes last goes first next primary. Maybe randomly select one small state to go first if people really care about making it viable for upstart candidates to run*.

*I don't really. You're running to be president, if you can't rustle up the money/people/machinery to campaign to 1/4th of the country how are you going to do it for the whole thing?
