Viruses don’t necessarily effect everyone. Immune systems are complicated. it’s possible that chance dictates a virus is caught early and eliminated. It’s also true that some people have stronger immune systems. Antibodies aren’t the only way to kill a virus, just a very effective method. It’s conceivable for some of these uninfected people, their immune systems were healthy, they got lucky, and now they probably have antibodies.

And this one certainly doesn't seem likely to.

Still I made it about an hour into my two week thread posting embargo. Pretty good going.

It's probably not going to do Spanish Flu numbers worldwide, but in China? Yeah, it probably will. Lack of modern facilities, widespread paranoia and large-scale disruption of normal systems are all working together. There's already signs of encroaching famine, and yeah it's not 1918 which means people are much more dependent on those facilities and in much closer contact.

China has bungled this to such a degree that it's already obvious this is going to hurt them for decades moving forward.

After sars, they put into place measures and plans that would provide an immediate and effective response in the event that something similar emerged. If they'd actually put those plans into action instead of attempting to cover things up for the first month or so then they absolutely would have done better.

If you're suggesting that they would be politically unable to have a better response then yeah, you might be right.

China did everything it could, like allowing the disease to spread around entire December and beginning of January and arresting doctors who tried to warn people. Not to mention trying to beat Guiness record for the most people gathering around and eating from the same plates near ground zero, mmm nothing to see here.

It was not clear in the beginning that the virus can transmit human-to-human. The first reported patient from dec 1 had no human-to-human transmission. The official verification of human-to-human ability was that one patient spread to 14 doctors and nurses. You can argue Wuhan should have diagnose sooner but it would be an academic discussion.

I have seen some interesting info regarding the fact there is (coincidence) a biosafety level 4 laboratory in Wuhan studying -among others- (coincidence) coronavirii.

More info from some dubious sources even trace the origin of the virus to a 2012 strain discovered in Saudi Arabia and studied in Canada that wasn't contagious, but the study of the new strain shows it's clearly different and highly contagious. It's easy to imagine the Chinese have been playing with virii as bio weapon and probably other countries do so too. Is it outlandish to imagine this strain is actually something designed, and that it was released accidentally from the BSL4 lab in Wuhan?

sorry if this was discussed before.

They don't usually try to make viruses less deadly in military bioweapon labs

Also there's a lot more bats than bioweapon labs

Our best method for getting random rear end poo poo as opposed to specific genes in microbes is still radiation and waiting. The natural world has plenty of (solar) radiation and is way better at waiting
