The eggs attract hungry fish, the mentos and coke make a poo poo ton of carbon dioxide, which forces the fish to look for fresh water with oxygen in it. They end up coming to the surface to breath only to be caught in the air I explained this on Reddit earlier, but for anyone else that sees this or is curious. That area floods often. Those fish live in holes like that, when the water recedes, they often get stuck in them. So I looked this up. The mixture of the mentos and the coke speed up the process of the catfish developing, and allows the embryotic disc to turn into a fully grown catfish. He was lucky this time, because the egg contained twin catfish. I had no idea this was legit fishing technique! I just thought it was a random thing. egg is bait draws in the catfish who wanna eat it coke and mentos cause a ton of carbon dioxide, basically smothering the fish fish try to go up to the surface to get fresh water LMAO NOPE

They generally do terribly in captivity, hate behind handled, and are sneaky nocturnal tree things. They're adorable but they also end up getting smuggled through the illegal pet trade as exotic pets. The treatment is of course often terrible and some species are endangered with the illegal pet trade just making that worse.

Exotic pet trade aside, nocturnal animals make lovely pets and having them become diurnal instead is almost certainly not good for them. A guy I know got some African fruit bats and he basically never saw them awake. Also more broadly I really don't get the desire for weird and exotic pets tbh. The dude's bats were cute I guess but the cuteness factor wears off after a day or so and now you're just left with a difficult and expensive pet to care for.
