Imagine going on a cruise ship during a global pandemic, that's probably the best way of getting the virus outside of walking right into a Wuhan hospital and making out with a confirmed case

Do you have a room with a balcony or a window? Or when the quarantine inevitably kicks in will you be trapped for 14 days in a windowless cell in the bowels of the ship, quietly waiting for the toilet to backfire and blast infected feces from the neighbouring cabin all over you?

It's actually a lot of fun when it goes great but sometimes someone has norovirus or a novel cold virus from wuhan and then it's not going great

These dentures won't stop me from tearing out jugulars in Thunderdome.

I went on a cruise when I was like 10 and it was alright. All the fun stuff was off-shore excursions like snorkeling, etc. The boat itself wasn't much fun, way too many annoying rear end old people hogging every square inch of space. For the price I'd rather just fly to one of the destinations and spend a week hanging out on the beach instead.

Also yeah a bunch of people got sick as hell (combo seasickness + some minor stomach bug) and there were some credible rumors of someone getting sexually assaulted by one of the seasonal temp employees which is uh, apparently shockingly common on cruises.

yeah basically that. flights are like $270 from US to europe right now, just go hang out on a nice greek island or croatian beach for a week drinking limoncellos for cheap.

I watched a documentary about cruises on the Mediterranean and what striked me the most (besides it being a huge scam for old and poor people dreaming about having a luxury experience) was that the air pollution levels on the deck of the ships were off the charts, and every time a ship is docking in a city, that city's air quality declines dramatically.

"Carnival Corporation, the world’s largest luxury cruise operator, emitted nearly 10 times more sulphur oxide (SOX) around European coasts than did all 260 million European cars in 2017."

That's mostly because EU regulations mean there's almost no sulfur in car emissions these days. Granted, that's for the good reason of air quality, but that's a less alarming statistic than it sounds.

Cruises are good for old people and families with kids, if you're not either probably not worth it vs an all inclusive resort. I'd not call them a scam by any means, simply expensive since ships are complicated vs hotels. Depends how much of Europe you want to see in 2 weeks in comfortable conditions, though.

They did measure the air quality on the deck when no wind and it was really bad though. Like standing on a crossroad in a big polluted city.

Also I said scam because basically it advertises the cruise at a certain price but eventually people end up paying much much more because of all the extras and shops and activities. I know the same happens on resorts, but to a lesser extent, and you could see everything on the ship was oriented toward making the customer purchase more stuff :capitalism:
