I’m looking for something analogous to lofi, chillhop, etc. EXCEPT! It samples old timey country music! Like make a chill remix of the read dead redemption OST with a snare drum and I’d be happy as a hog in mud. Chill-Ntry?

Don't know if you're still paying attention to this thread, but this morning I stumbled upon this, and thought of your post: Gala Drop - released in 2008. Pretty dub sounding, though not pure dub. More like what The Orb used to do with dub. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gSalLK53b4

Should be noted the Orb made a record with Lee Perry, might "scratch" an itch or 2?

A song by Kwoon popped up on my weekly Spotify and now I'm craving some really pretty, sad and melancholic post-rock. Unclear, mumbly or floaty vocals, or just instrumental. Always appreciate something with a good buildup. Less hopeful than Sigur Ros. If heavy, still harmonic. Good for depression, but sit-and-be-sad depression, not get-the-anger-out depression. See example (long) for a summary: https://open.spotify.com/track/6wsw4svgcv4G0N5fOtCKmb?si=iBbptDKIQu2JDvdT7iWmdA Other references could be GYBE's saddest stuff (Static, Dead Flag Blues etc.)

Sorry for the late reply, but I wanted to thank everyone again for all the dub reccomendations! I'm really enjoying a lot of the stuff and found tons of new stuff. I really like that dub-techno and went down a rabbit hole on youtube that led me to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpuHmH495us Does anyone know what type of music this is? I know it's a DJ set but I'm interested in more of the same and would love to know what the name of the genre she's DJing is (I know next to nothing about electronic music so pardon me if it's a fairly obvious one)

Recently found the group The Comet Is Coming and love the mix of electronic music with afrobeat, jazz and spacey psychedelic funk. Can I get rec's for something similar? Doesn't have to have all of the genre bending as The Comet Is Coming, as long as it maintains the electronic foundation.

Just discovered Comet is Coming from another thread and got real deep into them. I'm more into the psychedelic and apocalyptic side of their sound. The sax player, Shabaka Hutchings, has a couple other projects, Sons of Kemet and Shabaka and the Ancestors if you like some more traditional styles. 30/70 works in some electronic stuff. They're a little 90s acid jazzy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZ0EEBp_PKE If you just want jazz with an electronic foundation though, maybe dig into acid jazz. Some of it's really bad, some of it's good. Jazzanova has some good original stuff, but their remixes are hit or miss. What thread did you find them in? Do you listen to Kamasi Washington? More traditional sax-based Jazz, but his latest album has a spacey bent to it. You might also like another sax-based group, Moon Hooch, if you aren't familiar. Kinda like The Comet is Coming without the electronic flavor. They also get close to apocalyptic sounding. (I've seen both live, and they put on amazing shows, too. Catch them if you can.) Franchescanado fucked around with this message at 21:06 on Feb 11, 2020 |

Yeah, I do get on Kamasi and thought of him but didn't mention since he's not real electronic. Thanks for the Moon Hooch tip, they play around my area sometimes and I've never checked them out. Maybe I will now. On the same tip, Critters Buggin' is really weird sax honkin spastic jazz. Nothing electronic that I recall, other than weird keys from time to time, but Skerik, the sax player, is probably insane.

poo poo I wish I hadn’t slept on Moon Hooch for so long. This is Ornette Coleman and Rahsaan Roland Kirk levels of weird sax.

You could make a Satch or a general shred guitar thread or virtuoso rock instrumentalist thread or something but I’m sure you’d get very little traction. We talk about some pretty borderline stuff in the metal thread sometimes and aren’t really huge genre sticklers so you’re welcome to try. Just the appeal of Joe Satriani 33 years into his career is gonna be pretty niche.
