The homehub router is a 'normal' router size and quite light so you could consider it portable depending what you were doing. I take the mifi out in my handbag as I don't use mobile phone data.
The huawei 535 model has 4 ethernet ports. There's another one they offer with built in Alexa but it only has one

I think i'm going to have to get them to switch it.

The unlimited sim card arrived today, but the best speed i get from it in this mifi thing is just 40Mbit and that's when i'm sitting within 10 feet of it. At the other side of my house it drops to 3Mbit. At the same time, switching back to the 4G on my phone nets me 100+Mbit.

I've got a wifi extender and it turns out it it's not picking up a 5GHz output from the mifi which might explain why the speeds are pretty shonky. Does the homehub have a 5Ghz output?

On top of that, for some reason my compute stick connects to it but can't ever get an internet connection despite everything else at least getting internet access. It's running windows 10 like the other devices so i've no idea why it wouldn't be given internet access.

Edit: Yup, it's the mifi that's poo poo.

I just popped the new sim card into my mobile and boom, it gets 100Mbits a second in that.

To be fair there have been plenty of cases of counter-protests/striking against strikers by moderate workers and managers, Nottinghamshire in the '84 Miner's Strike and the FIAT strike in the 80s come to mind

Of course he could also mean a capital strike, he didn't specify workers would be striking...

It does have a 5Ghz band.

The MiFi page on 3 says that it's limited to 10 devices total - could your stick be no 11? (I've got 15 on my hub, and 2 wired - it shows them all with connected status).

I recently picked up an Asus Lyra kit as both the BT and Plusnet routers have lovely wifi strength and full whack signal anywhere in the house including the attic is fantastic. Works well through walls too, end of my drive gets over 100mbit to the AP in the kitchen. They're normally around the 300 notes mark but Amazon has them atm just under 190.

Not saying this is how you solve your problem! But it certainly solved all my dead spot issues.

Ah right, that's peculiar then.

When i connected it to the wifi extender it only picked up a 2.5GHZ signal and when i went into Mifi settings, in the WLAN setting , for wi-fi bandwidth, there's only an option for 20MHz and (Auto).

The stick was just the 3rd device to connected to it so it cant be that.

The really low speed it's getting compared to the sim being in my phone is the biggest thing that's telling me something's up with it. If the sim can access 100+Mbits (in my mobile), and the mifi is supposed to be able to handle download speeds of up to 150Mbits, then the only thing left that can be limiting it is the WLAN connection type no?

edit: gently caress me, this tech support guy from three was atrocious.

I explained the situation and he just said that the description is "up to 150Mbits" and that i should enjoy the service. Apparently my mobile phone gets a better signal because mobile phones can have better technology.

No explanation for why one of my devices wasn't connecting, or a good explanation for the mifi getting half of the signal that my mobile phone gets with the same sim.

The only thing he asked me to do was switch the signal to 3G and go to BBC.co.uk to see if the page loads :/

Edit 2: Double gently caress me. Eventually i got through to the sales team who told me that they don't sell the home router version over the phone and i need to go into one of the physical stores.

Nandy's basically reads like she's focus grouped what is the stupidest fuckin thing

OwlFancier
Aug 22, 2013

Nandy's stance makes sense in terms of trying to limit damage for labour while shutting down the question, because labour doesn't win in scotland anyway and if the result uses the whole of the UK she can frame it as respecting the democratic will of the BRITISH people, limiting the criticism that labour broke the union. No, nerds, you all voted for it.

It entirely misses the supposed moral point of the exercise, yes, but I think it makes sense as an attempt to address the issue without trapping labour nationally in a situation that's likely to end up badly for it, which RLBs does.

I'll cede that there's quite a lot of people who want an independent Scotland for it's own sake but I'm willing to bet quite a lot of dodgy pound notes that the majority of the upswing in SNP support is an understandable desire to get as much distance as possible from the sinking ship that is the UK. There's no way Scotland is seeing independence in the next few decades

Even if it held a referendum today it would still leave the EU with the UK and then have to apply for EU membership in the future.

The Scottish economy doesn't qualify to join the EU

Scotland would need to make a proper border between Scotland and the rest of the UK which is the Northern Ireland situation times ten.

Polling shows support for independence around 50%. Every year within the UK and outside the EU would see people growing more apathetic to the idea of inviting so much change. And support for independence would certainly decrease as people grew accustomed to their situation outside the EU.

There are some reasons to doubt this... for one, it has never been true in Quebec, also a left-wing nationalist movement in an Anglospheric liberal-democratic context that thoroughly displaced the non-regionalist left as a force in its region... recessions eroded support for independence rather than amplified it, a pattern that rapidly became so entrenched that Quebecois separatists began accusing the Canadian federal government of secretly plotting recessions that would keep Quebec in the federation. There are some commonalities with the contemporary Scottish insurgency, e.g. a certain optimism (albeit on the left) that the federal government will 'come to the table' for economic reasons and hence will offer good conditions post-secession, at least as good as they are now, and that economic links will not really ever erode... no comment on any resemblance to a certain English kulturkampf

There has never been a political question where the left does not feel that the underlying empirical cause of all unhappiness is insufficient leftism, of course - any exception is but a brief flight of false consciousness - but if one asks Scottish independence supporters why they support independence, a great many cite sovereigntist motivations -

Yeah, i think the call center is an absolute shitshow.

Anyway, i went into the nearest store just to get it over and done with.

He agreed that it was off i'd get over 100Mbit on my phone and not on another device. Then he confirmed that the mifi doesn't have a 5GHz channel on it and that it's designed more for out and about usage as a mobile hotspot (like in a car) rather your home Wifi setup and doesn't know why i was told to get it.

I suspect that lack of 5GHz is why the thing capped out (fairly consistently) at 40Mbit on both my laptop and mobile phone. Bugger knows why my compute stick wouldn't connect.

It turns out that he didn't even have an option to sell me the hub/router by itself, so i had to take out another 2 year contract to get it and now have to cancel the first one which he wasn't able to do in store either.

How did customer service get so loving bad with this kind of stuff.

Thanks for the advice though. Three have generally been good for the mobile side of things. I think there's been some kind of push to flog those mifi things because they have a limited use case and are maybe being phased out or something.
