For MMA I usually like to bet underdogs. I also tend to bet against guys I really hate.

Anything can happen in MMA but to be honest I have no clue if it’s a good bet or not. It’s really just me looking for value to add to my streak. I’m gambling with house money essentially.

I usually deposit £15 ($19) on Pokerstars every week or second week, today I had $10 left in my account and couldn't be bothered playing so decided to chuck it on the roulette, Just starting at $1 Red, $1 first third of the board, and 0,50 on 14. I hit 14 at least five times in the session, Got up to $2000, down to less than $100, back up to around $1800, then cashed out at $1200.

Im gobsmacked that I've won $1200 dollars on a $10 game of roulette, but also kind of terrified that I didn't stop in the middle and nearly lost it all again. I guess when you're in the middle of it you don't see the won money as your own, 9/10 times it would have gone the other way and I would have lost it all before I stopped. Anxiously waiting for the withdrawl now, I had to send extra ID over after gambling more than $2000 in one day.

I've played poker professionally for 12 years and this is the first time I've ever heard that term haha

I assume it means like you've won but you aren't up as much are you were?

That actually is interesting that someone coined a word for it, since like if you go by prospect theory it actually is quite different in emotions than just winning straight to a certain amt.

Like studies show you will be happier if you walk in, win $100, and leave, than if you were to win $1000, lose back down to $200, and leave, even though you won twice as much in the second scenario.

One of the interesting things that someone at Caesar's did, I forgot who, but you know someone high up in the hospitality part of the company, was to use these studies and actually specifically target people who would be shown to be like the most unhappy, because it actually isn't people who just walk in and lose. People actually expect to lose when they go to the casino, if someone walks in with $100 and loses it, they aren't really that upset. But if someone runs up 5x what they came in with, then even just goes back to even and doesn't even lose overall, they try to target them with like extra comps or whatever because that's who they know will be the most unhappy. Conversely, someone who walks in, loses 1k, and gets back up to only losing $100 is gonna be pretty happy, so like just going by how much someone is up or down is way incomplete.

Alright so I just finished my first live poker tourney.

I forget who it was (Jase maybe?) who said wearing a BLM shirt was a helpful start because it made all the coffee sipping old men flip out. I wore my Bernie Sanders shirt and while nobody seemed all that triggered, I somehow finagled my way to the final table and busted at 6th place.

Honestly I was nervous as gently caress at first but it was a great experience. Super small time, only costs $100 and I think there were maybe 40 people or so in the entire tournament (it is a Wednesday night during ACs offseason so i guess I shouldn’t have expected more)

Had a ton of fun just shooting the poo poo with people. This older southern woman went on a loving heater and kept asking me questions about my tattoo. Some old timey union guys with thick jersey accents yelled “Bernie 2020 bro!” As they exited. Just a weird mix of people. Also, $100 for an entire evening of entertainment is a pretty drat good value by any stretch let alone a casino.

One interesting thing I did not expect was how many people had good luck charms. Some made sense. A former marine had some sort of button, a guy had a commemorative coin for the 1986 Mets World Series win. Perhaps my favorite, though, was a tattooed up blue collar guy with a keychain that said “I love my orange tabby”.

If any of you can share poker good luck charm stories I would love to hear them

Aiming for a tiny Buddha card protector and knocking it down with the cards is one tiny pleasure you get as a dealer.

Also, some of them are stupid, but they do serve a purpose. If a dealer sees cards that are unprotected and going slightly towards them (especially for Seats 1/9) those cards will get snapped into the muck so fast.

I always used a chip and that was just so the dealer doesn’t grab them by mistake. I have had pocket pairs disappear several times with a really good dealer who keeps the game going. I don’t even blame the dealer I’m responsible for protecting my cards.

Dealer here, and thoughts on various games as follows.

Blackjack: $10 auto schuffler games suck to deal, either you are dead or have a table full of non-tippers who hate you personally. Spanish 21 is the same players but at least you get a little break when you change shoes. Hand shuffle is actually pretty great to deal as you have better players who tend to be better behaved.

Roulette: we took out our single zero wheel because everyone wanted to play the double zero wheel.

Carnival Games: 3 card and 4 card poker are easy to deal and fairly mindless, almost like a night off, but they tend to be a main source of tokes. Mississippi Stud is probably my favorite game to deal mainly because the players tend to be some of the most decent in the casino. UTH or HUH are the most difficult to deal which means if you are good there and do not have roulette or craps you will be on those tables a lot.

Craps: can be fun with the right players, and at our casino craps probably brings in 40% of our tokes. Most surprising thing is how many people do not take odds. Crapless Craps is fun to deal but people on it do not seem to tip as well as on normal craps.

Why are people better behaved/better tippers at tables that aren’t auto shuffled? Is it because they see you doing what they consider to be “real work” or something? I’ve never played blackjack at an auto shuffled table, I don’t think I’d change my attitude toward the dealer at all but I’d pick hand shuffled over that every time, for whatever reason. But I also have no issues with holdem tables using an auto shuffler lol. Gambler logic.

Basically the auto shufflers are lower minimum bets and that leads to worse tippers, for instance our auto shuffle games are usually $10 while the hand shuffle games are $25 minimums.

Do you have fusion games yet? Those tend to siphon the low bet/shittier attitude players.

Vvvv They realized exactly that but thought it would make them special. "If we build a Vegas casino on the East coast we're guaranteed to make money! Also, we'll build it on a former toxic waste site, charge $40 for self park and $650 a night." They actually projected a $1B EBITDA and will be lucky to clear $700M revenue..

They tried this at the new Wynn in Boston or whatever it's called now and posted a 41 million dollar loss in the first quarter. They just laid off about 70 of their staff because no one gives a gently caress about $50 table minimums and people just want to have fun gambling with McDonalds money.

They backed off, lowered table minimums, and people seem to have started spending more, but they're still hosed long term if the trend persists. Turns out not even people in the most expensive place to live want to gamble at those prices. They probably should have realized that they weren't building a new house on the Vegas strip

Honestly thought that would be the first thing commented on. For those that do not know in roulette for a straight up bet, or a bet on just 1 number you get paid 35 to 1. On a single zero wheel there are 37 numbers on a double zero wheel there are 38 numbers. If someone were to bet a dollar a number on a single zero wheel they would lose 1 dollar per spin, on a double zero wheel they would lose 2 dollars a spin.

Perhaps the logic is "after a zero is hit there are a few rounds where the wheel is 'safe' from hitting another zero. Obviously the more zeroes on a wheel the more safe periods you get."

They should introduce a wheel with one number and 36 zeroes.

Edit: or maybe at their casino a two zero wheel pays 36 to 1, and any fool can see that 36 is more than 35.

Its the massive still silent addiction. Its astounding that it STILL isn't talked about. You can suck dick for crack, go to rehab and get better and you will be shamed less than if you were a degenerate gambler. Its weird.

(Btw, it is exactly like being a massive alcoholic or smth, you CANNOT just gamble a little ever)

If you go into any casino like 90 percent of people in there have or are in the process of ruined their lives gambling. The statistics on scratch tickets are staggering, like a relatively small number of poor people buy them all and NEVER will win--- of course same with lotto.

This might hurt a bit..

my one and only casino gambling story is being on a cruise with the family when i was 17. i went in to the casino, decided i knew nothing about proper card games, and decided to play a slot machine instead. put in 20$, said to myself "Alright, if i lose this, i'm done." Won a bit. lost a bit. Won some more, ended up with 40$ in quarters. cashed out half, put my 20$ back in my wallet, continued playing. after about an hour or so, had about 75$, decided to call it a day, since being a teenager, having a nice wad of pocket money to spend on food and in the arcade on the ship seemed pretty sweet. Caught up with my cousin who had decided to play blackjack. "So, how'd you do?" "...I dont want to talk about it." "What do you mean, you don't want to talk about it?" "I DONT want to talk about it." Found out later he'd lost about 500$ at the table.
