Void Destroyer 2: gave it a shot and whoa... I actually like it? The learning curve is surprisingly manageable and I'm working on amassing cash to get a better ship. This is way way way better than the X games where I was too stupid to figure out what to do, and I didn't enjoy the combat. But here... I've shot a few things down, I'm having fun, and when some pirates spanked me I didn't quit in a huff, I reloaded and ran for my life and I'm plotting revenge later.

Wanting to drop the $30 and just BELIEVE that the final two acts and all that last-minute untested content will be good, but... uh... I get the feeling it only really started gaining traction last year. The game seems to have gone through several iterations from its Kickstarter, taking on a more polished art style and most significantly abandoning its open-world concept.

I really hope Asobo gets to make another game of their own once they're done with Flight Simulator, I really loved Plague Tale - for itself but also because it clearly was a passion project of a team that otherwise does mostly mercenary work. Another dev that can go back to doing passion work is Criterion, which apparently got handed back responsiblity for Need For Speed.

Is there actually a game to it or is it still almost exclusively sandbox a machine and test it against 3 spawned enemies in a developer box? Unfortunately I'm dumb and and lack imagination and creativity and patience to really dive into sandbox-y build-ur-own-lego-castle stuff these days, I wish I was otherwise ah to be 9 years old again, carefree and full of creative juices...

Gamestar gave Wolcen a 69 because of tons of bugs and the new acts generally seeming very unfinished, then got contacted by the developer and told that this was a miscommunication with the german PR agency and what they've gotten was not the release build. Seems...iffy.

But everything I have seen, including the Japanese Wizardry games, has either no Monks, no Faeries, or has neither of them.

I'm very wary of most streamers, but this guy got the game early. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bA3RJGHtAk I also saw another German site review Wolcen and only mention crashing once, so maybe Gamestar really did get the wrong build? I dunno, buyer beware.

Yeah, he seems like a legit reviewer for ARPGs and it's definitely swinging me back towards buying tonight. Really funny to see how many people in the Discord were hopping up and down saying it was no big deal to not see two whole acts and an entire tier of abilities in Early Access. Yes, not all games go into EA but those that do usually show a bit more before they release.

Hey - I feel like I'm in a minority but... I've really tried to like the Steam controller, but just can't do it. I hate it. It's due to the right pad: -The right pad is often hard to use with default settings. Too sensitive, not sensitive enough, imprecise etc. -Inconsistent between games. Is it imitating a controller stick? A mouse? Better dive into the config for each game you play. -Looking around in 3d games requires multiple swipes; I think you can config the edge to hold look, but am not sure how -Config is a mess! You have to use big-picture, even if that's not normally part of your flow. Big picture's a bad UI if you're not using a TV or want to edit things with KB/mouse. - Config is a complex assortment of settings in a tree of menus, preset configs from other users etc. If you find this type of stuff fun, maybe it's the right tool. If you just want to play games with a controller, it doesn't seem like the right tool. On the plus side, being able to use normal AA batteries (which you can recharge), and the huge battery life are great!

Many, many more people hate the Steam controller than like it. It has some niche uses and if you just want a mouse replacement on the couch it'll do that fine but for anything else you have to spend hours doing configuration and hours adjusting and it's poo poo.

Just regarding controllers for anyone using a Dualshock 4, maybe this will help: Go into Big Picture mode once and create a DS4 profile. You don't have to edit anything; just select "this controller that's plugged in is a DS4." You can now completely forget about Big Picture mode forever and your controller will be recognized as a DS4 controller every time it's plugged in and work flawlessly with at least every single game I've tried with it. I haven't had to open DS4Windows ever since I did the quick controller setup in Big Picture within Steam itself. This should work for any other controller you have first; just select the right pre-made profile.

i'm still on an xbox 360 wireless controller, and it's great. Apparently the dpad is bad but i only use it for selecting things so haven't noticed.

You guys sure you need to use Big Picture? You can just go to the settings > controllers to activate any controller support and then right click on a game > manage > controller configuration to change any buttons.

Good controller overall, but it has a deadzone in the middle, and battery life blows, and I had to put electrical tape over the light.

I genuinely expected that I'd still be like, scrubbing floors for five hours before anything opened up.

Serephina posted:I'm very glad demos are becoming slightly more common again. It really helps me crystallize whether I would like the game or not. Doom2016? By the end of the second stage, hell yes. Plague Tale? Good hook in the first few minutes, then they got to the stealth+escort segments and I'm laughing on my way out the door. Just not for me. Likewise, I just got Dishonored, and knew I would love it within five minutes of the first 'real' stage - but said stage took a half hour of intro beforehand. A demo would've sold me that game years ago. Me too, I bought both Morta and Plague Tale recently because of the demo hook. It's odd I bought Plague Tale because I generally loathe both escort and stealth games but for some reason find this one really fun and compelling so far (I'm maybe 5 or 6 hours in).
