Ebola is far deadlier than coronavirus, but coronavirus spreads more easily. The other half of the issue is a lot of the earlier suppression of information from China leading to a lot of mistrust.

have any polls for the dem senate race been conducted? both cristina ramirez and sema hernandez seem good, to me, so i'd like to vote for whichever is most likely to win

Texas Tribune did an "Ask the frontrunners" article, and Sema Hernandez didn't make the cut for it. Otoh Cristina Ramirez does have the questionable support of Alec Baldwin.

"We can't have a candidate with new ideas! It might affect the old ideas that have worked so well for thirty years!"

I also enjoy how enlightening this quote is:

quote:

“The reality is that every Democratic president candidate has happily endorsed socialist policies,” Texas GOP Chairman James Dickey said.

It doesn't matter who you run you stupid fucks, the GOP are still going to call them pinko commies.

"There is overall uncertainty which is growing. The real fear for Texas D’s remains Sanders," Bill Miller, a longtime Austin lobbyist who has worked with both Democrats and Republicans, said of a Sanders ticket. “'We’d be hosed' — that’s what they’re saying. The drain at the top goes down to the bottom.”

Worst bbq and worst opinions.

That's really disingenuous. Bill Miller is a hard-line right-wing kinda guy. To paint him as some sort of reasonable moderate who's worked with both sides is intentionally misleading.

Is she at least plausibly capable of moving the overton window to the not-right and or maybe not voting for the coming Iran War?

Also Sema is crazy but she's our crazy. Houston supremacy.

Christina's stated positions seem like the best of the group. Medicare for All, mandatory paid parental leave, $15 minimum wage, criminal justice reform (including bail reform) etc...

Same for Sema while also being really loud about the MIC among other things. They both seem fine from what little information seems to be available about them (neither really has an extensive public record). Cristina also seems to have pissed off some of the worst extremely online libs by being endorsed by some actress that the hashtag resistance totally cancelled for not being sufficiently differential to Clinton back in 2016? That was at least pretty loving funny.

Sema doesnt seem like a serious candidate.

Don't ask how many senators these areas get.

It's 46. Almost half :)

The Senate has got to go, or at least change to representational though I dunno what the point of a second proportional chamber is (like 49 states have so....) but we talk about huge political lifts, m4a, Supreme Court reform, etc. Changing/abolishing the Senate to fix it is about the biggest lift I can imagine.

House members are accountable to their district, Senate members are accountable to the entire state. That can be true for 15 Senators just as much as 2.
