The boomer Republican dads in my family's social circle make cracks about people being "triggered" a lot. It's wild that our mostly-offline parents are so concerned with a telephone-game impression of Obama-era Tumblr culture. Also wild that the most watched news network in America devotes a huge amount of run-time to noted rapist Roger Ailes screaming through various mouthpieces that it is wrong, tyrannical and somehow an attack on Christianity that women don't want to be raped by him, and most of the country just acts like it's a legitimated new organization.

I mean, one of the most beloved professional wrestlers of all time is, in kayfabe, an undead mortician who's also a cowboy and really likes motorbikes. For some reason, people are OK with that but not with a trans woman wrestling. (They probably found the Santina Marella stuff knee-slappingly hilarious, though.)

It's all about that bone density, apparently, despite the fact that bones also tend to feminize for people on long-term oestrogen (for example, I've personally dropped a couple of shoe sizes). I think Kayfabe News said it best a few months ago when she was signed. The complaints about breaking suspension of disbelief or whatever because she's got an "unfair advantage" are especially ridiculous when you take into account the fact that pro wrestling essentially has no weight classes. The previous champion is about the size of a 12-year-old and wrestles people who look like they could hurl her across the ring like a ragdoll - and frequently do so. If this was a real sport then Nyla and Riho would never have fought each other because they just wouldn't be in the same division. If you think Nyla has unfair advantage but Awesome Kong vs Riho would be a completely fair and reasonable contest then, well, you're lying and you don't think that.

I can guarantee that most of the people mad about Nyla Rose winning the AEW Womens Title are neither fans of Pro Wrestling of AEW. They heard a trans person did a thing, and got righteously outraged that thing wasn't quietly hating themselves whilst being forced to live their life in the wrong gender. And then blamed it on PC gone mad and threatened a media company, (that they never watched in the first place), that they will never watch again. You know, normal behaviour. Oh, and by the way, the clip above of Kenny Omega losing to 9 year old Haruka is my go to clip when I tell people why I love Pro Wrestling. A grown man confident enough in himself to lose to a 9 year old girl, get booed by a crowd, (who are in on the whole performance aspect of the thing), for beating up that little girl, and also sweet enough to train that little girl for months and months to allow her to live her dream and not hurt her or let her hurt herself doing so.
