Now that I think about it, I'm not sure if there's ever been a video game.

i got around to installing the scholar of the first sin randomizer and after beating a few bosses i still have no estus flask so i peaked at the cheat file to make sure i wasn't loving up/it bugged out and whoops it's in the gutter, getting owned right out the gate here

the randomizer is real fun though because DS2 has such a cool variety of stuff that even i, a person who has beaten it multiple times, haven't used. i'd like to do the ds1 item and enemy randomizer too but i apparently do not own the latest edition on steam

Funny timing how the epic guy went viral saying games should be devorced from politics right as the goobergooter's Skyrim clone was the free game.

One of the defenses for lootboxes is that you can't win money from them; a casino where you can only lose is somehow a good thing.

Hopefully least with the death of Blizzard the "it's just cosmetic" defense will die too,

It’s a little tricky, just because the combat mechanics are based on a archaic and in my opinion counterintuitive version of Dungeons and Dragons. I’d say a good place to start would be Baldur’s Gate 1 (Enhanced Edition, of course), as the prologue is a pretty good tutorial on how to move around and the basics of combat management. Baldur’s Gate 2 is the better game, but if I remember right, it does toss you into a non-trivial dungeon at the very start, with very little instruction on how anything works.

I guess my grand suggestion would be, play Baldur’s Gate 1 until you get bored. Don’t be afraid to lower the difficulty if you find yourself dying to random wolves, and play around with the auto-pause options until the real-time-with-pause system starts feeling comfortable. Then, try out Baldur’s Gate 2, which is the absolutely best version of this style of game.

Played up to the city, so, like, twenty-five minutes. The presentation and game feel are a little bit “Diablo 3, but worst”. I took a peek at the passive skill tree, and as a Path of Exile veteran I felt right at home, if a little annoyed that none of the nodes have icons. I do like that you can spin the different rings of the tree though

I’d say that The EEs are Strongly Recommended, just for the UI stuff alone. The additions are otherwise pretty disposable, as the extra companions they’ve added are simply not that well-written. They’re easy to ignore, thankfully.

Installing the originals along with a widescreen mod would be enough, probably, if you don’t want to spend more money.
