Well I was actually thinking that too, I have a mint Celsior V8 if I need a normal car and two Skylines (I just sold the third I had). I think I’m going to have them come pick up the Hyundai and give me a check of it all works out.

Well if carvana follows through I think I will. The fire truck I sold on BAT (that I still have but it’s been paid for) would have made a great DD, gas, 2wd and 5 speed. 4 doors and very nice to drive plenty of power.

See what Carmax will offer as well. When we sold the Tacoma carmax offered a couple hundred more then on top of that gave use another $500 if we put that towards buying something from them.

CarMax doesn't to my knowledge, that's the thing Carvana has going for it. We sold my mom's Soul to them for more than I was asking on Craigslist, they're picking it up on Tuesday.

They do not as far as I know, you'd have to bring it to them and let them go over it to get an offer. Probably not worth it in your case having to drive two cars to Nashville. Carvana that poo poo and daily one of your cool imports.

Yeah car max doesn’t, like I said I have a sick kid so I pulled the Hyundai up in the yard and took the Thule racks off. If carvana gets back to me and confirms just going to have them come get it.

Getting out of RHD totally too. gently caress you GM, first you take away our V8 sedans, the least you could have done is sell us some Corvettes or even some goddamn real SUV’s.

According to that article they're probably going to import some Tahoes and Suburbans. What other actual SUVs does GM make these days? Also apparently the C8 is showing up already set up for RHD instead of making the HSV team swap it over.

It's definitely a big move but not all that surprising. Seemed only a matter of time once they killed the real Commodore.

GM have completely mishandled the shutting down of Holden's Australian production and its aftermath. Nissan shut down local production in 1992, but still get reasonable sales in Australia with pretty average products. Ford still does well in Australia with the Mustang, Courier ute and Transit van (while no one buys the Focus and the Mondeo has the axe).

GM let Holden sell the Cruze and Captiva well past their sale by dates and not giving them a good enough cars to replace it until the last moment when the VF Commodore was about to die, since they gambled (and lost) on Opel being a brand in Australia. GM selling off their European arm to Peugeot in 2017 surely meant that people could see the writing was on the wall for Holden, since the GM Korean stuff outside of the Astra sedan had dried up.

Why would you buy a Holden SUV these days over the Japanese or Korean offerings?

The fact that Holden's 2019 sales were the lowest since they first started producing cars in 1948 just screams what a complete gently caress up GM has been.

Aargh
Sep 8, 2004

Not completely surprising, once they retired the Commodore they've only been selling junk cars. I was a bit surprised that the Opel Commodores didn't sell but really all of their SUV's are just low cost rebadges of the GM ones and for most of them there's better to be had for less money.

I’ll believe it when they’re actually on sale. But I’ve always thought, as gigantic and out of place US models are on our roads, GM was leaving money on the table when you still have buyers who were buying $100k HSV’s, now left with the choice of a vastly overpriced Camaro, or a V6 Acadia, if you didn’t want a ZB Commodore. Why not at least try to sell them Tahoe’s and Suburbans or Escalades, or volume Camaro.

Getting out of RHD seems dumb, when with modern design and manufacturing techniques, every other manufacturer does it happily, on both high and low volume cars, including.....Holden, for a while at least.

Holden DID try to sell Suburbans here. It was one completely huge and hilarious failure.

(Really doubt anyone who wants to pay 100K for a HSV is going to even think about the road turds GM otherwise sells apart from yeah okay maaaaaaybe the Camaro. But thats a big if)

GM should have sold Holden alongside of their Euro setup to PSA. Maybe Holden wouldnt have had the crippling profit shifting BS that GM demanded and they might have made a profit. Like strangely enough Opel did in 2018 for the first time since 1999.... odd co-incidence that

Yeah but that was a much worse product than today, an ancient platform, and you could still buy a Commodore then. I’m saying maybe you get to keep some of those former SS or HSV buyers. Not selling them anything is clearly a far worse proposition.
Edit: I guess what I’m saying is they could have done something, ANYTHING to try and retain those customers, not just...nothing.

One of my newspaper carriers had a RHD Cherokee. I didn't know until I went to orient him on the route, ended up completely redoing the delivery routing and sequencing to suit him (since nearly all our other carriers use standard LHD for delivery).

I mean, GM never figured out how to go the other direction either. Every time they rebadged a Holden for the US was a flop.

CAT INTERCEPTOR posted:

I don't see how they'd ever be competitive except for people who specifically want the longest three row SUV possible. I'd wager a Land Cruiser ends up far more competitively priced there verses here and that seems like a much more compelling sale.

I would legit expect that the existence of the DJ5 is still the biggest reason RHD Jeeps continue to exist, along with needing relatively few bespoke parts thanks to the solid front axle.
