The original, and best, of the pretentious yelping indie boys, Dan Bejar, aka Destroyer, has a new album and it's apparently really good (haven't listened to it yet).

Everyone has an album or artist that turns them into a music obsessive, right? Shortly after starting college in 2002, I started to listen to better music. The internet played a big part in this... it was the first time I had high speed internet, iTunes had just launched, and Napster was becoming a thing. Destroyer's Rubies was the first alternative album that really hooked me, that I listened to on repeat until I'd memorized every word. I'm glad he's still around and hasn't turned to total poo poo!

I remember trying to find Destroyer on soulseek and only finding kiss albums and Destroyer 666. When I finally found people with Your Blues and Destroyers Rubies I found a bunch of other sick stuff

Hey there, I just published another episode of my electronic music mix show featuring mainly middle eastern artists. This one has a bit of hip hop, too...including this up and comer from Ramallah, Palestine.

They are not new, but I had not seen Faded Paper Figures mentioned here. Sometimes I get an itch that they scratch.

I went to see The Mowgli's with the gf at some point last year and the first opener impressed me and has been getting plays on my Spotify since. They kept having guitar strings break early on (I think 3) but were fun, engaging, and sounded good even though I hadn't heard any of their stuff.

I've been reading through this thread a lot since the beginning of the year. There is a lot of great stuff and contributions in here. I'm still working through a backlog, but some of the standouts I didn't know before follow. Thanks to those that recommended them. Steel Train, Mean Jeans, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, O'Death, Frontier Ruckus, Ha Ha Tonka, Local Natives, Dr. Dog, Army Navy, Pacific Air, Beautiful Small Creatures, Titus Andronicus.

I was absurdly disappointed by Wildflower when it came out, but now i think it's ok as long as you skip Frankie Sinatra, which is absolutely painful and doesn't even sound like it was produced by The Avalanches.

Wildflower was the Chinese Democracy of Starbucks-tested, NPR-approved indie electronica. typical youtube comment - "hm not feeling this yet but i'm sure it will grow on me". The Avalanches - s/t will always be there best work. And that's fine. Saying that,, er,, I'm still going to listen to whatever they put out next.

I've been listening to Broken Social Scene's self titled album a whole lot. And it's so good! It feels so fresh and cool even though I just know a whole generation looks back on that album as their college-days music. Honestly, sometimes I feel like I'm 15 years behind. and its all............... gonna break!!

I haven't found much new indie but wellington scene darlings The Beths have recently broken through so catch these vibes here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtqX7rWtR8A if you haven't already
And I remember when they were openers at $10 gigs at Meow and Carolines :') And later this year they're opening for the Green Day, Fall Out Boy and Weezer show.
Which reminds me, I must go to heaps more $10 gigs this year.

I think they're great - it's a very polished show with a lot of songs mixing in and out of each other, and a few new arrangements, usually with a fun cover thrown in. Saw them twice on this tour and had a blast. Will say there's not a ton of stage presence (kind of unsurprising for a group of, basically, dweeby dads) but the light show is quite good.

Years and years ago, Hot Chip came through my city and I bought a ticket, but only because Four Tet was opening for them and I figured there was a very slim chance he'd ever come back. So me and maybe 10 other people watched Kieran Hebdan put on a real sick hour long set and then I went home before Hot Chip even came on.

I've since seen them a few times and it's a fun show, eat some drugs and dance it up!

Wow, great new Tennis and Tame Imapala albums on the same day!

also, I love Hot Chip but did not care for the new album and felt those songs brought the show down when I saw them a few months ago. Their concert 10 years ago was probably one of my favorite I’ve ever been to.

Man I gotta say the new Tame Impala is not doing it for me. It's just aggressively mediocre. I've done 4 listens to see if I am missing something but I can't name a single song because they all sound the same.
