Lot of people are hyped for a possible sequel I guess but how realistic would that be? Didn't the studio get closed down?

I was cynical of the idea of a Sonic movie from first inception to even after redesign. I just saw it and loving loved it. I can’t believe it. All those childhood Sonic fan feelings came back.

The VFX company I worked for on Sonic was shut down in Vancouver, but still has other sites around the world. If a Sonic sequel happened, it would either go to one them, or another studio entirely.

I can't believe how much I really enjoyed that. Weird coincidence how whenever this property keeps winding up in the hands of somebody besides Iizuka or Kishimoto, it's really really good! Nope - she was around from the beginning, though I feel like her just being a large photorealistic owl clashes a bit with the other more cartoony characters. Her role was larger originally too, since she and Sonic both escaped through the ring and hid out on Earth as she slowly died from her wounds over several years. Sonic having to take care of her would have explained why he stuck around Green Hills long enough to form an attachment to the town, but it probably would have hurt the tone of the movie.

I'm sure if(when?) we get a sequel there'll be plenty of opportunity to reintroduce most of this stuff but it sounds like pretty much all of it was better off on the cutting room floor.

Movie was decent. Jim Carrey was a fun Robotnik (he even started to sound a bit like Mike Pollock near the end) and there were some good jokes in there. Some additions like Owl Mom were kinda weird.

They have "Teen Sonic" and "Toddler Sonic" available as new event unlockable characters in the sonic mobile games! They also added City Escape as an area and music, and swapped the enemies and bosses for ones from the movie.

Not really. Forces wasn't rushed out to meet anything in particular and it was 4 years after the previous sonic game, and it's still clearly very unpolished.

My favorite part of the Sonic movie was the tasteful love scene between Sonic and Eggman. I didn't know Jim Carrey could pull off sensual gravitas, but here we are, and it's almost enough to make me forget the hundreds of children he helped to convince their lovely, stupid parents to not vaccinate. I just hope Infinite appears in the sequel, now that was a unique character with some potential.
