Bob Odenkirk is a great actor, but he somehow manages to always be Bob Odenkirk.

I thought he disappeared into his Fargo season 1 character pretty well. But I still occasionally looked at him and thought, “Bob Odenkirk”.

Bob Odenkirk joining the cast was why I gave Breaking Bad a second shot after I bounced off of it in season 1.

Oh, I got used to it pretty quickly in Breaking Bad. It was just that and the combination of historical garb that took me a few minutes.

He really is a solid actor and I loved Saul Goodman -- although I haven't watched Better Call Saul.

I'll second this. It was a little easier there because he was wearing a bit more make-up than usual.

Not irritating, but definitely irrational on my part: I took a friend to see Little Women on Sunday. They mention the girls' father having left to join the Union army, until surprise! he's home from the army about 2/3 through, and it's Bob Odenkirk.

Don't get me wrong, Odenkirk was just fine in the role, but it took me a few minutes to stop making me think it felt like a Mr. Show or W/ Bob and David sketch. Specifically, sketches like this (can't find the full clip).

https://youtu.be/ILFBqwK5tt4?t=77

This will forever be my favorite line from the show because even Bob couldn't keep from laughing while delivering it.

I’ve only seen the first two seasons of BCS, but I liked it more than Breaking Bad (and I REALLY liked Breaking Bad once it grew on me). It feels like it started at the quality level that Breaking Bad finished at.

I'm not sure if I'd call Better Call Saul a better show overall, but it's a better acting showcase for Odenkirk for sure. He gets to really flesh out the character and play it as a real three dimensional person, and he's great at it.

The relationships between various characters are more interesting to me, and it really feels like the characters drive the plot through their motivations and interactions with each other instead of just one chain of events leading to Walt digging himself deeper and deeper.

Supernatural benefited from it. S2 had had a big rating dip and the CW were thinking of canning the show with S3, but then the strike hit before the ratings reached the axing point. Afterwards circumstances led to an early pickup for S4, and here we are 11 years later with it still on the air.

Even in animated form. When he showed up on Bob's Burgers, I recognized his voice immediately even though I had no idea beforehand that he was in the episode. That's not a complaint, as you said he's a great actor and he has a great distinctive voice.

Also I just realised, I think why Kung Pow is so popular with the internet crowd is it's basically a predecessor to the gag dub/abridged series/youtube poop style of transformative works, both in structure and in tone.

Watchin’ a dumb shonen anime that takes place in a magical fantasy world. The two main characters were raised in a church’s orphanage. The church and the priest and the nun who run it all look kind of catholic, but there is no mention of any god, let alone Jesus, in this generic fantasy world. What religion do these people practice? They never tell us, but I have to know!

It was also fun in the anime Hunter x Hunter, which also takes place in a fantasy world with completely different countries and land masses and ethnic groups, when a character starts waxing philosophical about Judas selling out Jesus for 30 pieces of silver and how that ties to destiny and free will.

IIRC Catholicism is to Japan what eastern religion is to us: something we don't care enough to depict with any kind of accuracy but love to use as a quick shorthand for exotic spirituality

Movie police in general quit chases way too early, like as soon as they lose sight of you once they just stop...unless it is being filmed from the person who is running away's perspective. Then the cops are around the next corner ready to clothesline you.

My irritation with that movie is that the music-instrument fight scene (which I admit is visually interesting at first) drags on WAY too long and kills the movie's comedic momentum. If that scene was cut out or significantly shortened, I'd probably love the movie as much as everybody else, but as is, it just left me feeling meh.

They work the same as Grand Theft Auto cops, Batman just ducked into an alley for a minute and the cops despawned before they could home in on his location even though he was surrounded.

Yeah that scene stood out to me. The whole de-aging seemed really uncanny valley to me, but some people said they didn't even notice it so

That scene also felt totally unnecessary to me. Just so heavy handed, didn't seem natural. Why even take the daughter with you? It just felt forced instead of a natural reveal, for such a long movie those moments felt cliched and rushed.

I dunno I just didn't like it much overall. Goodfellas was already perfect. Why you gotta go and do Casino and Irishman and stuff and basically just repeat yourself but worse. The same voiceover stuff, its just getting old.
