So I moved to Texas in June last year. I registered to vote here and just double-checked that. I know Texas has voter ID laws so what will I need to vote on March 3rd? I have an out of state drivers license and a passport as far as photo ID goes.

Also I read something about how Harris County doesn't have designated polling places and that you can vote where-ever in the county. Does anyone know if that's the case?

A passport is fine. Technically it's illegal to drive with an out of state driver's license after living here 90 days though.

Hello? Charlemagne?!
Thanks everyone. I just wanted to make sure I'm voting legally so I can concentrate on my other crimes.

Passport is plenty but we also don't have voter ID in Texas. I'll beat this drum every election because telling people we have voter ID is doing the GOPs work for them, but if you are a registered voter and you show up at a polling place, if you don't have an ID, you can sign an affidavit stating any reason or hardship why not, which the electoral officials cannot challenge, and you will be permitted to cast a full, non-provisional ballot. So they'll ask for ID, and you can show it if you just want to avoid the rigamarole, but not having a photo ID is not going to keep someone from casting a regular ballot.

Sorry to perpetuate this piece of misinformation then. I genuinely didn't know and the state sure makes it seem like there are stringent ID requirements.

No apology necessary, as you could you know? You're right the state strongly implies we have extremely stringent ID requirements, that's the point; to make people who might not have a perfect ID think that they might have a hassle voting. It's really hard to get people to vote with no barriers, so it's easy to get people to skip the polls if they're worried about a scene or being turned away. My issue is with the doomer leftist hyperbole having the same effect, and if you're hearing it from both sides, of course you're going to think it's true.

We had a huge fight about this in here in '18, which is why it's a thing.

Passport is fine but I definitely had election workers unironically tell me "just bring your driver's license" because I guess sorry you have to handle this valid form of ID.

Average age of an election worker here in Brazos county is 78, I just heard the other day in the context of a community notice desperately seeking younger people who actually understand how to use basic technology.

Younger people don’t have the ability to do it because it’s a temporary part time job. Does it even pay?

Yeah if there’s anything young people *aren’t* doing these days it’s temporary part time jobs

Young people, in my experience, are looking for jobs that last longer than a month. They aren’t retired folks doing this out of boredom, they’re trying to pay bills.

Might be interesting having a musical following Sam Houston ending with him being ejected from politics for refusing to join the CSA and including that bit where he told James Bowie to fuckin' blow up the Alamo instead of staying there to die like an idiot.

I don't actually know if Hamilton goes for accuracy or reinforcing standard American myths, but there's always interesting stories to be mined out of history.

Only half of the Senate seats are up for reelection in a given election year.

Also Donna Howard and Celia Israel have declined to run for Watson's seat which makes me think they're pretty hopeful about a House flip.
