I have some itneresting electrical oddities in my house. One is when I turn the underhouse lights on I hear the sound of a USB disconnecting from my. It's a mystery what actually disconnects. Also when I open the beer fridge - anything I'm streaming in the livingroom mutes for a split second. It's repeatable too.

Speaker/sound circuitry close to the bluetooth? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1mlponX_jw I justified buying new speakers (to myself) with balanced signal inputs because it would eliminate this kind of interference. I'm pretty sure my carrier turned off the 2G network maybe a year or two later. I still get interference from LTE on my clock radio sometimes, but the sound isn't the same. Thankfully it's not nearly as annoying.

I may or may not have brought up a certain computer monitor we had in the 90s, and how they thought I was crazy for moving it around and wiggling its power connector trying to get it to stop making a high-pitched squeal that they couldn't hear... I can still hear high pitched electrical whine like that but only in one ear. It makes trying to hunt it down an exercise in supreme frustration. Like wandering around holding my left ear close to things to see if it gets louder type frustration.

I know I've lost some frequencies due to age, but it doesn't seem anywhere near as bad as it rightfully should. And my hearing in general is weirdly acute, despite the various sonic abuse I put myself through over the years. But I also get occasional tinnitus that is awfully close to capacitor whine, so sometimes I have a hard time determining if I am actually hearing an electronic whine or if it's just my occasional mild tinnitus.

I've certainly abused my hearing at times but it's still excellent at 31, and I pick up a lot of high frequency noise that others miss.

I already gave him one of my 1702 monitors for retrogaming, but now he wants the rest of the setup, ha. He's really really excited to get into Best Computer, it's great. He's probably like 7-8 years younger than I am, and it makes me happy that someone who didn't grow up with the C64 is this excited about it in 2020. I think these are TI/99-4A games? Maybe? Based on what I have researched? But wow, nothing says "tech relic" like "data cassettes you find at the bottom of a forgotten garbage can in the depths of a garage," especially when Googin' one of the names on the cassette (PraCompuWare) returns literally zero results "York 10 Computerware" and "Microcomputers Corporation" both return some results about Texas Instruments gaming though, hence my guess as to what these are. Oh and "Let's Learn Notes" combined with TI/99 finally returned a useful result basically confirming these are probably TI/99 things. Great! Now, why are these in the bottom of a forgotten garbage can in a garage

I didn’t think any TI-99/4A software came on tape, I thought they were all ROM cartridges so TI could retain full control.

Battle at Sea, Battle Star and Let's Learn Notes are all programs that appeared in 99'er Magazine and were collected in a Best Of book which is where I found them, perhaps Math Tutor was in the magazine as well but didn't make the cut. https://archive.org/details/tibook_the-best-of-99er-volume-1/page/n199/mode/2up/ - Let's Learn Notes is p199, Battle at Sea (i.e. Battleship) & Battle Star are 229-236. Perhaps those tapes are from an entrepreneurial soul with less patient friends.

Oh dang. That would make a lot of this add up, between the un-Googleable name on the tapes and the other random company names who may have just sold the blank cassettes. I found another half-dozen beyond those four, so clearly now I should check how many of the titles come from that book. Hot tip; thanks!

Back in the 1980s there were a few BBSes in my local area, and one was a site dedicated to playing board games and such that ran on BASIC. One night it let me dial in and connect but dropped me to a blinking prompt. Thanks to the time I spent on TRS-80s in elementary school I was actually able to figure out what was going on and restart the BBS software, but it logged me in as the guy who had crashed it. I proceeded to declare wins in all the games he was playing, change his name to end in -Leek, like John Smith-Leek, and posted a brief but weird anti-vegetarian statement under his name. I think I also changed his address to something like 666 Acheron Way, Hell. I was a dumb mildly edgy 15 year old, so thought it was funny. I didn't change his password, though, and figured he would fix things the next time he logged in. Instead, he logged in, said people had said they didn't think he won the games they were playing and he didn't either, changed nothing, including leaving his password the same. So, of course, I decided he needed go further on his crusade against vegetarians, and posted lengthier screeds about the evils of eating innocent vegetables. I think he eventually changed his password, but it took way longer than seemed reasonable.

Like everyone, I received mountains of AOL floppies, which I could reuse, and CDs, which I could not. I'd be a little irritated with those AOL CDs, because there would be all that space that they coulda put a movie or video game on, but no, it was just their crappy software. Remember all those Windows Shareware CDs? What if AOL put a handful of junky games on each of their CDs, and numbered them? Any household with a computer and a kid in it would have kept those little ad-bearers around indefinitely, and they'd be collector's items now (ok maybe not).
