I'm pretty sure flat earth is largely an own, where its bad faith actors revel in both how many people seem to believe it and how much airtime it consumes. We don't have the power to change the world meaningfully but maybe for the lulz if I just keep saying the earth is flat I get to see people's reactions and maybe get someone else in on the game, or better yet, a true believer. Even if it's all 100% sincere, they keep owning everyone by making this bullshit as big as it is. Flat earth is dumb but I give it some respect for just how far it's gotten and its entertainment value.

That's also how the alt-right happend though. Years of "lol at the normie reactions when I say Gas The Jews haha could you imagine" and then it turns out that there's a critical mass of people joining your clubhouse who do, in fact, completely unironically, want to Gas The Jews and form a white patriarchal ethnostate.

Also weirdly you end up wanting to do it too. Possibly while still thinking it's very funny as you load people onto the boxcars, as a prank bro.

marktheando posted:I dunno, I think it's probably more laziness, he might be capable of negotiating a deal if he could be bothered. I don't think so. Because I don't think the negotiating a complex trade deal is like a homework assignment. Where you can just leave it off to the last second, ask for extensions, throw in some half assed result and get a C - and take that as good enough. And it's definitely not like how films/Boris' own articles for the Torygraph portray it as something that is made over complicated by bureaucrats, and we should simplify it and work something out on the night. It's just a train derailing but in slow motion.

The thing that really exemplifies New Labour to me isn't the Iraq war, it's not the ID cards or the hard push on racism. It's that in 1997, after near two decade of pure tory evil the likes of which we'd never seen, one of the first big things they did was cut benefits to single mothers. No political pressure to do so, literally had just won a historic victory and they swung against single mothers. Pointlessly cruel and indistinguishable from the Tories.

PFI is what you get when you think you can trust businesses not to try to get the most money out of you. Centrists have this murderous naivety to them. The thing about "the left hates success" is that sure Blair won the election, but the new Labour government was an utter failure. We are trying to avoid failing at what matters rather than the fun media show of an election. It just so happens we also failed at that but... Quiet you!

I still don't think "we" failed at that as much as the shitbag brigade pulled out all the stops to make it happen and then blamed us for it. "Why is has the left put all this poo poo in my pants?" I exclaim, by modulating my arsehole such that the torrential discharge therefrom briefly mimics human language.

Assuming he started aged 16, he's apparently got to 200k a year in four years, self taught immediately after failing his GCSEs, through a career choice that is risky at the best of times. It reeks of bullshit, but then all of these stories do, and almost always are.

I see absolutely no benefit in self flagellation when the problem is right in front of you and claiming it actually wasn't the problem. It would be dishonest and harmful to suggest that the left was at fault when the right is trying to claim it's going to rescue us from their own sabotage, it is far better to tell them to gently caress off and spit in their eye. But also I dunno I suspect that might make me a bit relative to the thread.

I would probably suggest that while it is unlikely to change things, successful extraelectoral revolutionary action is even less likely to change things, unfortunately, if only because electoral success is more likely to happen and function as a release valve before revolutionary action builds sufficient momentum.
