The funniest thing is that according to the comments, this was made by a Bernie supporter as a sort of preemptive joke:

There's actually a part of me that thinks Sanders might not have been so successful this primary without Warren—the moderate wing considered her a threat and him irrelevant for the longest time, and spent all their efforts on attacking her while he slowly built up support until it was too late. Had Warren not run and the left/progressive wing of the party coalesced around Sanders early, there's a good chance the moderates would have recognized the threat much earlier than they actually did.

(This is also why I think all the calls for Warren to drop out on Twitter are hilariously misguided—you want Warren to stay in for as long as possible, so that she keeps absorbing hits that would otherwise be thrown at Bernie, and so that the "Anyone but Sanders" vote remains divided between multiple candidates).

Oh this is most def true, having Warren has helped to normalize the idea of m4a because other candidates have had to weakly support part of it instead of just outright labeling bernie crazy over it. Warren also appeals to different types of voters than bernie and has gotten a different part of the dem party to support more left leaning policies.

All that money Steyer spent in Nevada and he got 4%. He's polling well in SC but he's not catching Biden overall, let alone Sanders. Burn that money, billionaire.

I'm really enjoying seeing Gabbard pulling in well below the uncommitted crowd. Like "we don't know but definitely not her."

It's always going to come up in a comprehensive enough social media check. The small possibility someone brings it up in the future at a job interview.

But in that rare instance, he'd then have to explain lying about being hacked, because of how blatant that is.

Also, by being a politically palatable leftist candidate for centrists she effectively laid the groundwork for the entire party to coalesce around Sanders by shifting the Overton windows enough that he wouldn't be nearly as shocking to people.

It's been something watching the punditocracy/lanyard class absolutely lose their poo poo over Bernie having momentum right now. First, we have Jennifer Rubin, a Never Trump Republican and columnist for the #DemocracyDiesInDarkness #Resistance Washington Post, launching this unhinged screed that includes these gems and basically calls on the Democrats to do whatever dirty tricks they need to get Biden the nomination:

quote:

Fourth, Steyer and former New York mayor Mike Bloomberg should use their millions to go after Sanders, the candidate who threatens to sew up the race before Bloomberg gets started. They would do the party a favor, frankly, by getting all the opposition research out there now so that Trump does not spring it in the final days of the general election. (If Bloomberg’s next debate performance is anything like the last, he will need to bow out as well; there are not enough ads in the world to compensate for a candidate who cannot perform live.)

Fifth, both candidates and elected leaders in the party must demand that Sanders release all medical records, as he promised. This transparency is essential both to inform the public and to inoculate Sanders against Trump’s inevitable attacks, if Sanders becomes the nominee, that would portray him at death’s door. At the next debate, Sanders’s rivals should be united and resolute in their demands. Moreover, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) needs to turn all her considerable firepower on Sanders in the next debate, and would earn the gratitude of her party and a top Cabinet post if she blocked his ascent. She should present Sanders with a consent form authorizing release of all of his medical records.

Then we have this guy, who was a prominent campaign official for Obama since when he first announced his run, claiming that American democracy itself will die if Bernie gets the nomination.

That was a thought that had occurred to me today. Republicans will oppose any plan put forth by a Democratic president. So the only compromising that Bernie will have to do to pass legislation will be with Democrats. They represent a bigger obstacle to progress than the GOP.

We're facing the same problems that the Ottoman empire faced which is that in order to survive we have to reform our system but by doing so the people that are currently in charge would have less power.

The goal of capitalism is not to grow our economy, it is to grow what percentage of the economy the capitalist class controls. The reforms we want are fairly basic and would grow our economy. Paying for health care costs eats away our ability to buy consumer goods and prevents the sick and injured from being able to return to our work force. Free education would mean that we maintain our competitive edge as the world continues to shift towards high tech industry and automation. 69% of our GDP comes from private consumption. Additionally, working class buy local and spend a much higher percentage of their paycheck consuming goods than the other classes. drat near every dollar you give to the working class gets immediately put right back into the local economy. Give a million people 20 bucks and they spend it by buying their family a pizza. Give a single billionaire the same amount of money and they will spend or invest it globally. The people in charge would rather rule 99% of a crumbling US than 95% of a thriving US.
