There's a system of state universities called the University of California but nobody is going to refer to a particular University in it as the University of California. There is also California State University system which is less prestigious and nobody is going to brag about moving from the UC to it. It's probably a joke or a typo or something.

The cast of Friends really don't have to work again because by the last two seasons they were all making a million per episode and and they also get hella residuals. Kind of like how after Seinfeld ended Jerry went strictly low key, doing one animated movie and more recently an interview show because he got out of that show mad rich and has only made more money from it since.
