That video is great!

*second Cyberdemon behind that comes into view

This game will great.

e: also him saying that we haven't seen all enemies yet makes me hope for a return of the Spider Mastermind even more. (thinking about, didn't Hugo at one point say that all enemies from Doom 2 will be in Doom Eternal? So chaingunner (which appeared in a leak that id said was false, but the level names at least seem to be correct) and Spider Mastermind are hopefully in, and oh my god do I hope for an infight between Mastermind and Cyberdemon

I was sitting with a friend showing off the switch doom and stuff and he asked 'does this have multiplayer', I thought there was only multiplayer with another switch owner for local, but nope, we went to the menu, and found out that we can play LOCAL SPLITSCREEN Co-op and deathmatch games up to FOUR PLAYERS and we can play any map and any add-on WAD this way.

Needless to say, we shat our pants with amazement and happiness that we can play 60 fps doom together on the couch lol

Doom on the switch is probably one of the best five-dollar purchases on that system, period.

2016 was about reimagining demon designs, Eternal is about de-imagining them.
This is true and somewhat ironic in that several of the Doom 2016 enemies were clearly based off of Doom 3 - the hell knight, obviously, but in the original reveal of Retard 4, the imps had the same eyeless hell knight look as well. Hugo Martin admitted in one of the recent interviews that Doom 2016 was probably more based on Doom 3 than people give it credit for. So the series is regressing in order to progress.

e: oh and the Hell Knight has eyes now, so the whole creepy eyeless Doom 3-esque aspect of the design has been neutered too, lol.

I do like that they kept the Hell Knight design, its one of the best ones from Doom 3 and the design from the classic games is just a beige Baron of Hell

I much preferred all of the enemy designs from 2016 over Eternal's Doom 1 remasters. The new ones from Eternal look cool though.

The designs that seem to be most based off the original Doom games are actually all of my least favorite from 2016, so I like their thinking with eternal. Imp, Pinky, Hell knight, Baron of Hell, rventant Caco Demon were all great and remain just slightly changed. Meanwhile I wasn't a huge fan of the possessed soldiers, just way too generic looking and the new buzzcut guys are way more fun looking. Same with the Mancubus and then of course making the cyber demon a normal enemy and making it look old school. It's all gravy imo.

Enjoy your tea...

This is probably old hat for this thread but my partner got me a Switch for Christmas and I’ve been dying to see just how Doom works on a handheld.

I’m honestly blown away. Sure it’s a lower resolution, lower detail and a frame rate of 30fps but I’m playing Doom on a goddamn handheld! And it plays well!

I’ve not been this impressed by a handheld title since playing the original Doom on the Gameboy Advance.

I bought Doom. Thirty seconds in and I've killed three possessed while bake with just a Pistol. Now the slayer is punching consoles.

I like this. It's like New Colossus with auto pickups and without reloads or hitscan weapons.

Yeah other than the sort of blurry visuals it's a great port. Certainly not the ony version of 2016 I'd want to own but it's great having it portable.

Using the motion controls takes a minute to get used to but it's the only way to play.

I mean I like new Wolfenstein and Old Blood is the best FPS campaign I've played in the last decade as a raw shooter experience, but Doom is definitely better than TNC.

Theres a bunch of stuff I can't stand about new wolfenstein. Awkwardly picking up crap off the ground with a prompt in a shooter that is supposed to be fast, level design full of poo poo to get stuck on, cheap annoying enemy spawns...They have a fun narrative and look nice but the approach was just a massive whiff to me compared to Doom which felt near perfect.

They are worth playing once but I'll probably never return to them. And the newest one sounds terrible I guess it's a loot game or something.

The hinted at arc for Hayden in Eternal makes me really happy.

And yeah you can get a lot of the weapons earlier in 2016. I got the rocket launcher in foundry on my recent play through by doing a glory kill and falling through the floor, that owned.

I like that the :airquote:Tyrant:airquote: seems to have some of the same sort of attacks as the Doom 2016 cyberdemon. Dunno if it was the intention, but in my head it's a nice little way of establishing them as the proper heirs to the Cyberdemon title.

It would be weird if it was fake, if only because I don't really think of Pratchett as one of those Einstein or Gandhi types that you reach for when you want to spuriously attribute a quote. Who would be the target audience for a fake Pratchett quote?

I mean I know that characters are not authors (at least if the authors are good) but there's some pretty quasi-pornographic descriptions of Detritus owning stuff with his crossbow.

On the other hand, the entire moral of Men at Arms. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that pterry's work was a land of contrasts.
