Bernie won my precinct You wouldn't believe how surprised I am, because every time we had the no early voting, full attendance caucus the room was flooded with boomers. A racially/culturally diverse mix of boomers, but boomers nonetheless. It seems like Biden was basically denied a coalition of the historically black neighborhoods and the very richest of neighborhoods, because the very richest of neighborhoods love Pete to an level uncharacteristic of any other, even the still-rather-comfortable suburbs. If you need a idea of what kind of people would stan hard for Butt, consider that Pete won the McDonald Ranch precinct (where houses look like this) by a hilarious margin, with even Biden being 28% behind. The really funny thing is that the polarization encouraged to great effect by people like Murdoch has also robbed them of their ability to meaningfully keep someone like Bernie out of the process. You can only scream socialist so many times before people stop paying attention.

Just talking about West Virginia, by the way, it's probably not going to flip away from Trump, even for Sanders. I feel like if Ojeda couldn't win against a bog-standard hooked up Republican businesswoman, i'm not really sure Sanders will do something better. It ain't the Mine Wars any more- they've voted D before but West Virginia democrats were generally pretty right-wing in that era. I think Bernie can change some alignments, but I don't think West Virginia is one of them.

There’s also the fact that, like it or not, racial resentment is in fact a pretty fuckin’ strong motivator for political behavior, often to the extent of making people vote against their own self interest. A dem party that is identified in voters mind as being the party of minority interests is always going to struggle to win votes with some people, everything else aside. I made fun of someone upthread for saying “Bernie will turn Texas blue!” because that’s pretty clearly wishful thinking. But a coalition of minority (particularly Latino) working class and college educated whites (who are better off financially but still precarious enough to care about the welfare state in a non-abstract way) is far better positioned to flip a state like Texas than WV, even though it probably won’t happen anytime soon.

In 2012. To this dude: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Judd quote:In 1999 Judd was convicted of two counts of "mailing a threatening communication with intent to extort money or something of value"[5] and sentenced to 210 months (17½ years) in federal prison. The conviction has been falsely connected to litigation involving the University of New Mexico[6] which was a civil rights complaint he initiated.[7] His actual crime involved postcards that stated "Send the money back now, Keith Judd, Last Chance or Dead." and a package containing a semen stained Playboy, a knife inside the magazine, a key chain, and his father's military discharge papers. He also sent letters to jurors after his trial.[8] He has appealed his conviction no fewer than 36 times, but each appeal has been dismissed for various reasons.[9] Feldegast42 fucked around with this message at 02:21 on Feb 24, 2020 |
