Det_no posted:Over here in Mexico we have a daily press conference about the virus, with experts tracking the epidemic and answering journalist's questions about the situation. So far, over the past week and a half or so, there have been only 6 confirmed cases (5 from italy) and a couple hundred that tested negative so things are considered to be under control. Unfortunately during today's conference they revealed plans for a joint Canada-USA-Mexico program aimed at testing Spring Break tourists to make sure they are not infected before they leave their country and I just know you are going to gently caress it up and get us all sick. Poor Mexico. So far from God, so close to the United States

Hypothetically speaking what do you do tomorrow if you know you are infected? What if you just presume you are infected? What if you only have a low possibility of being infected? The time frame that Wuhan called their lockdowns until now and where I live it goes beyond the 5 degrees of separation game. The Wuhans started doing those insane lockdowns in January right? That's weeks after when they noticed widespread illness? Everyone on the West Coast already has this, just wait for it. I'm not saying we shouldn't keep taking measures to slow it down, but it certainly would appear like we are doing next to nothing except hording toilet paper. Who really knows, but this already seems to be defining the year. I would just look at Italy and Korea for what we can expect to deal with.

All I can remember about Pence is that he caused an AIDS epidemic, likes to be hosed by horses, and refuses to be alone with other women without his wife, who he calls "mother", being there. And that's after four years of exposure to him.

He owns and it was something watching his tone shift to more and more grave as poo poo got more real throughout his vids. He also really politely but firmly calls out/burns official responses and has been advocating proactive instead of reactive responses. I've seen people give him poo poo because he's technically a nurse with a PhD and so 'not a real doctor' but frankly nurses get stuck in with the Blunt reality of care and I absolutely trust his assessments.

The increased humidity in warmer weather might result in slightly less airborne transmissibility, but it's not going to "disappear" in warm weather. Because we have no immunity the viral load necessary for infection is likely pretty low. It will still spread, just not as well.

A group of us at work are scheduled to visit our big client in another part of the country next week. I really don't enjoy going there at any time and I'm hoping people see sense and say, "ooh, CORONAVIRUS, very scary... let's just have a nice remote conference instead" and then I won't have to go travelling to boringsville on sea I'll try nudging things in that direction a bit more on Monday. Tickets haven't been bought yet so there's no concerns over sunk cost to overcome

Arsenic Lupin posted:Thank you! I hadn't heard a clear explanation for reduced summer spread other than "people are spending less time indoors". I think the idea is that increased humidity results in droplets dropping out of the air quicker, and increased moisture in the air might result in breakdown of viral proteins. I don't think anything has been proven, and I have read that coronavirus has a phospholipid membrane it borrows from host cells so it might be resistant to that. It's getting a bit too deep for me at that point. A lot of the research I've seen re: flu is that drier air results in the droplets becoming smaller and staying airborne longer, resulting in more spread. Sunlight has been shown to destroy viruses and bacteria, but I'm not sure how much it helps in like, a public space where someone coughs next to you. Again, a little too deep for me at that point. I've had a good 50/50 rate of doctors being either extremely good, caring, concerned with patients and having an ethos of doing the right thing or minimal harm, or being jobsworth automatons/ borderline sociopaths who clearly did this for a secure high paying job and give zero fucks. I get that the training and job can burn something out of you for the stress, but hell. Almost all the nurses I've interacted with have been lovely and caring if generally stressed, and that's even as a trans person when you're guarenteed to get weirdass responses. makes me think about going into medicine vs nursing

From what I've heard nursing courses tend to and be cut throat and have a high washout rate. And again hearsay says that the nurses that don't actually care tend to get out of the profession within a couple of years of entering it.
