McNally took money for the useless dirt shirts. In addition he made a giant shirt with a picture of him doing the double finger guns. His coconspirator received the fingerguns shirt in the mail and the collective pretended like that’s what mcnally had mailed to everyone.

I bit hard on that one along with a bunch of goons from other boards.

The recipient of the 6XL fingerguns shirt wasn't let in on the joke until after he received it, but otherwise that's right.

So in the middle of all this poo poo, and the Saudi King's death/not-death/undeath, Saudi is basically declaring an all-out oil price war, and OPEC has likely broken down.

https://twitter.com/JavierBlas/status/1236430793838342144

Basically, the global economies are looking so lovely that the oil producers want to make as much sales as possible, even if that means selling a barrel of crude for as low as $20. That's great for gas prices, but sends a massive signal to Wall Street and businesses that poo poo is very, very bad and won't improve anytime soon.

Stock futures are down another 900. Oil is down 31%.

McNally only delivered a single joke shirt (god I still laugh at the finger guns on that 6XL tent), the actual shirts eventually came later, after everyone had a good chance to either laugh or flip the gently caress out.

Can you explain this to me with small words as if I was an idiot? I don't get finance-y/industry type stuff too quick. Saudi Arabia is just going to poo poo oil onto the world market to cut prices as low as they possibly can and try to WalMart the competition? I thought they could only do that short term because US fracking and stuff would just mothball their wells and what-not and wait until they were done?

Close enough. If Saudi can pump out barrels and get them to us at ~$20 a barrel, and our internal production costs are close to ~$30 (cursory google searches' best-case scenario), there's no point in internally producing the oil anymore.

That's why the fracking boom upended OPEC and traditional oil markets so much. Fracking allowed us to internally produce barrels of oil so drat cheaply that we no longer really gave a poo poo what OPEC fixed their prices at. So, OPEC keeps cutting prices, trying to drive the frackers out of business, but instead the frackers keep cutting their production costs.

The trouble is that I have no idea how much money the frackers have in reserve, if they have to mothball equipment. One way or another, that likely leads to a shitload of laid-off oil workers until oil prices come back up.

Alberta's economy is going to loving COLLAPSE, lmao. The oil sands up north are a quarter of their GDP and they've been banking on that for long enough that every time the oil sector hiccups the province goes full-on panic and starts threatening to turn the pipelines off (while simultaneously demanding that more pipelines get built).

'A group of protesters in Saadoun Tunnel under Tahrir Square in the center of Baghdad were chanting on Friday night, March. 6, calling on Coronavirus to come to Iraq and take revenge from the militias and corrupt politicians who killed them during the 5 months of protests.

"Listen to us Corona, come and visit the thieves who stole our wealth, come and take revenge from who stole our dreams, we only loved our homeland but they killed us," protesters were chanting.

Despite the rapid spread of the coronavirus in Iraq, protesters have maintained a steady presence in Baghdad's Tahrir Square and other public areas, with no sign of intent to retreat or scale back their demonstrations

$35-25 is the break even range for US producers, and they definitely trend more towards the higher end. Virtually everyone in the industry, at all levels, not named Exxon or Chevron are leveraged so far out of their rear end and has been pouring cash into dividends and stock buybacks(like the rest of the market) that they cannot weather this at all. Cash is king and most of these people do not have it.

Yeah basically this, with the added twist that the reason they're doing it is that they're convinced the global economy is hosed and they need to take whatever they can get for everything they have right now, hence the fire sale
