So in the middle of all this poo poo, and the Saudi King's death/not-death/undeath, Saudi is basically declaring an all-out oil price war, and OPEC has likely broken down. https://twitter.com/JavierBlas/status/1236430793838342144 Basically, the global economies are looking so lovely that the oil producers want to make as much sales as possible, even if that means selling a barrel of crude for as low as $20. That's great for gas prices, but sends a massive signal to Wall Street and businesses that poo poo is very, very bad and won't improve anytime soon. Stock futures are down another 900. Oil is down 31%.

McNally only delivered a single joke shirt (god I still laugh at the finger guns on that 6XL tent), the actual shirts eventually came later, after everyone had a good chance to either laugh or flip the gently caress out.

I thought they could only do that short term because US fracking and stuff would just mothball their wells and what-not and wait until they were done?

I thought they could only do that short term because US fracking and stuff would just mothball stuff and wait until they were done? Close enough. If Saudi can pump out barrels and get them to us at ~$20 a barrel, and our internal production costs are close to ~$30 (cursory google searches' best-case scenario), there's no point in internally producing the oil anymore. That's why the fracking boom upended OPEC and traditional oil markets so much. Fracking allowed us to internally produce barrels of oil so drat cheaply that we no longer really gave a poo poo what OPEC fixed their prices at. So, OPEC keeps cutting prices, trying to drive the frackers out of business, but instead the frackers keep cutting their production costs. The trouble is that I have no idea how much money the frackers have in reserve, if they have to mothball equipment. One way or another, that likely leads to a shitload of laid-off oil workers until oil prices come back up.

Virtually everyone in the industry, at all levels, not named Exxon or Chevron are leveraged so far out of their rear end and has been pouring cash into dividends and stock buybacks(like the rest of the market) that they cannot weather this at all. Cash is king and most of these people do not have it.
