I work in healthcare. The employee I was doing shift change work was coughing all over the ofice today, not wearing a mask when they are right on the table, and being inconsistent with covering their mouth. I bleached everything and moved to the office down to the lower floor, but god loving drat it am I pissed to hell. Emailed the manager about it, especially since there are a lot of 70+ year olds here. The only email we have gotten from upper management is "we're working on a policy, in the meantime keep washing your hands." R.I.P. me

I wonder what Wuhan is like when it's not a 15th century plague city. Will it turn into an ironic tourist destination for future hipsters / yuppies once this all blows over? *smugly poses with selfie stick in front of concrete marker for mass grave of a Correction - the central party wishes to say that only a few dozen unfortunate brave citizens died tragically and no more. Anyone suggesting anything to the contrary is encouraged to self-report to the nearest friendly police officer for enrolment in mandatory super happy patriotic fun time education. Wuhan is a lovely city and has the best food in China, but nobody was visiting it before so I dont see why that will change after this passes. The riverwalk is fantastic as well.

On a scale of COVID-19 to Wuhan Flu Where does the name 1918 Spanish Flu fall? We named it that because it killed the king of Spain. Or is that not racist because spaniards are european.

I make washable baby wipes for Ralph Jr cause I got sick of buying disposable ones. They work real well and he's never gotten diaper rash, so they are probably nicer for your gross goon butts than paper. Anyway here is my recipe- Cut up old t-shirt or leggings or sheets into pieces. Pieces should be about 5' by 5' or so, but whatever size you want to use depends on the vastness of your rear end. Material needs to be cotton though. Mix up 2 cups of water with 1 tablespoon olive oil and 1 tablespoon castille soap. Castille soap can be tricky to find and is pricey, but a big bottle of it will last for a long time. You find it in health food/organic stores in the US, but here in the Netherlands I have to buy it online. So put the cut up fabric into a plastic container and pour the mixture over it until it's just moist-not soaking wet. Put the lid on top and presto, you got butt wipes. I use an old Greek yogurt bucket, but anything plastic with a tight lid will work, like Tupperware. They do a good job of wiping liquid poo poo off someone who's been wearing a diaper, so a normal poop you should only need one or two. Wash them on the highest hygiene setting on your washer and they are good to go. I made my first batch of these over a year ago and I am only thinking about replacing them now cause they are starting to smell a bit funky due to repeated washing.

Also I hope that Ted Cruz doesn't get it, I wouldn't wish that on any virus.

In fact it's a moral prerogative to point out repeatedly that it came from Wuhan, because the genocidal dictatorship that currently runs China is desperately trying to push a narrative that it didn't in an effort to deflect responsibility for the outbreak.

On that note is there genuine cause to believe China's infection rate is actually going down or are we still going by the Great Leader's words?
|
# ? Mar 9, 2020 10:24 |

When China has the same number of infections as yesterday, then yes they've hit the inflection point and it stops becoming exponential. There's math to back this up... if you can get the R0 down to 0.5 (which welding people into their houses and making everyone wash their hands is likely to do) then the rate of infection should slow down... ...I doubt the infection has stopped cold turkey but The R0 in China is probably under 1.0 now and new infections per day are probably less than the day before

Oh hey cool my daughter has an e-learning day today because they’re shutting down the entire school corporation today, a kid (thankfully not at her elementary school) tested positive. They’re not letting any of the kids at that particular school back for 2 weeks, which will effectively be longer with spring break. My wife teaches in the same district too, good times.

On that note folks, soon as you get home get out of those street clothes and grab a shower before you do anything. In fact treat your street clothes like you just slept in a pile of lepers. Toss that stuff into a laundry bag and don't touch until you have enough in there to justify using the laundry machine. Not just a Covid-19 thing but it applies for that too. Combined with good hand hygiene be amazed how much less you get sick every year.

Extremely single use but if you want to go full paranoid because of necessary work related travel it's the way to go. How many people have realised they should also be grabbing stacks of disposable painter overalls with the built-in hood? No point wearing that mask & goggles if your hair soaks up all the contaminants. I just realised the endgame of this. Fashion in the next year or two is going to be medical themed. We're all going to be dressed like extras from Kurt Wimmer's Ultraviolet.

I've been told by family who have been there, that its a shithole, but they were probably just comparing it to Bejing and other major cities. Most cities in america have been given character through popular culture. Most places in the world are just normal places with nothing particularly notable about them, aside from local history and culture. In europe, they try to draw attention to unremarkable cities by doing things like the City of Culture stuff. Like here we go, European city of culture for 2020 is; Rijeka & Galway. 2019 was Plovdiv & Matera.
