Your skin has a bunch of anti-microbial compounds as the front line of your immune system (see Innate immune system). Generally, microbes live longer on steel or plastic because those surfaces aren't constantly secreting anti-microbial compounds in an attempt to fight off any microbes it doesn't like.

That said, you should still wash your dirty, dirty hands.

They have an English version of the site but not the virus page. But I clicked around their English sign up page and found this:

Yeah I'm native German, just didn't know about the infektionsschutz Gesetz until now. Your insurance pays 70 percent of before taxes after 6 weeks by the way, or a maximum of 90 percent after taxes (in case you're close to the tax free bracket I'm guessing).

Here in Berlin the roni has shown his head, and yet the local football club is scheduled to have a full stadium for a game in a few days. People are mostly really pissed about, and for good reason.

Imho here in Germany people seem to be well informed and relatively calm, people are buying a lot of food and of course toilet paper though. I've seen few people coughing in public which I chose to believe is because those who are sick stay home.

In other news a colleague has not been in the office this week after his wife was tested on Monday, nobody knows why and everybody seems to ignore it. My work is offering homeoffice in case anybody thinks they're a risk. All in all, things are getting more serious and everybody is kind of nervous while hoping it goes away.

Interesting start of the decade so far, drat.

Events with more than 1000 people are now verboten in Bavaria, and the football teams will play in empty stadiums. Maybe other areas will follow suit.

At least no one will catch any virus in the Berlin Brandenburg Airport :smug:

We don't need to wait that long to know. In about a month, the Philippines will show exactly how much heat will or will not halt the spread of CoViD-19. Because unlike Italy and Iran, the Philippines are regularly above 75F with high humidity during this time of year.

Outta my way, ya dumb rah-rah!
My parents and two of their friends FINALLY canceled their cruise to Italy and France that they had booked for June.

I saw more masks on the subway today and am still surprised/impressed at how low the number of cases in Toronto is, especially considering how early it started popping up here. I guess when one outbreak completely skullfucks your city, you learn a few lessons!

Vietnam clearly has been. Singapore as well. Only questions would be Phillipines and India.

You can argue that Vietnam and Singapore just show how effective and proactive their government responses have been. I mean, Vietnam was the first country to contain the original SARS, and they clearly haven't forgotten any lessons from that time. The Phillipines and India will show how well it spreads in warm weather when the government response is at best reactive.

buy several flavors of soup bouillon cubes/powder/that paste in a jar, also some curry powder, also onions/garlic/olive oil. Now you can flavor your beans/rice a half dozen different ways to trick yourself into eating the same thing every day

e: P.S. store your precooked beans and rice separate from each other in the fridge and only put them together in the bowl when you eat them, they’ll last a few days longer

P.P.P.S.S. cook a bunch unflavored, keep in the fridge, then add “flavor” separately to each serving, you just have to microwave some and maybe sauté up some onions fresh to put on

There was also a article I think with the NYT about the state & corporate labs spinning up their own tests, that was where I drew the theranos thing from. But I'm having a fucker of a time re-finding it because the connection was implicit not explicit, they didn't actually say it was all theranos' fault.

I was asked to provision a remote workstation for an employee today. This employee has decided to go on a cruise because “the deals are just so good right now.” Her manager tried to explain why it’s such a terrible idea, but no one has been able to change her mind.

When she gets back from the cruise she’s not allowed back to the office until two full weeks have passed. I think this is about as good as we can do to protect everyone else from one employee who has such poor judgment :sigh:

Yeah, the difference is that elected officials get tested rather than told they aren't dying yet so they can't be part of our daily test limit.
