The Walrus posted:my favourite part is how on your hands it can only live for 5 minutes but can live for 12 hours on clothes. Your skin has a bunch of anti-microbial compounds as the front line of your immune system (see Innate immune system). Generally, microbes live longer on steel or plastic because those surfaces aren't constantly secreting anti-microbial compounds in an attempt to fight off any microbes it doesn't like. That said, you should still wash your dirty, dirty hands.

Maybe other areas will follow suit. At least no one will catch any virus in the Berlin Brandenburg Airport

Posted this in CSPAM but I'm bring it here like the virus itself; Over/under: this poo poo is gonna burn out by end of May due to the season change, we're gonna get a lot of "told you so's" from the Trumpers, then it's gonna come roaring back next year with a vengeance.

We don't need to wait that long to know. In about a month, the Philippines will show exactly how much heat will or will not halt the spread of CoViD-19. Because unlike Italy and Iran, the Philippines are regularly above 75F with high humidity during this time of year.

My parents and two of their friends FINALLY canceled their cruise to Italy and France that they had booked for June. I saw more masks on the subway today and am still surprised/impressed at how low the number of cases in Toronto is, especially considering how early it started popping up here. I guess when one outbreak completely skullfucks your city, you learn a few lessons!

You can argue that Vietnam and Singapore just show how effective and proactive their government responses have been. I mean, Vietnam was the first country to contain the original SARS, and they clearly haven't forgotten any lessons from that time. The Phillipines and India will show how well it spreads in warm weather when the government response is at best reactive.

I was asked to provision a remote workstation for an employee today. This employee has decided to go on a cruise because “the deals are just so good right now.” Her manager tried to explain why it’s such a terrible idea, but no one has been able to change her mind. When she gets back from the cruise she’s not allowed back to the office until two full weeks have passed. I think this is about as good as we can do to protect everyone else from one employee who has such poor judgment
