LO AND BEHOLD:

The snide, insulting, sub-moronic approach to arguing, where one type of gameplay is passively implied to be better than the other through subtext, with couched insults nested inside, but in a little bitch way. You see it's only an insult if you identify as the first type of gamer, so he can claim it's not directly insulting, it's conditionally insulting.

I can't believe how many people out there are little loving bitches, and the remaining cultists fall into that category to a man.

Wait is this true about the new Subnautica stuff? Because that makes me WAY more interested if so.

This is the patented Chris Roberts' unjustifiably inflated ego hard at work.

Everything every company has done is "simple" and he can do it "better" just by thinking it.

Only rockstar has his respect, and even then he views them as his equals instead of a development studio that could run literal rings around his candy cane house of lies and high school-tier coders.

He sees fortnight, and to his eyes it must seem like child's play compared to the neural network galactic trading system he developed in his mind.

He's got this mystifying "if I can think of it, I have already done it better than anybody!" despite never actually building these things in his minds eye. It's a fun problem because it's prevent his entire team from ever fully completing anything really. I'm not sure there's any part of the game that is perfectly working.

And so he sees fortnight and thinks to himself "I can do that... only better!" and the result is not only not better, but genuinely terrible. He'll never notice that it's terrible, disliked, and nonfunctional at every level. Only that he sees himself as better and smarter than Epic and more capable than their development studio.

There was a concept he said or wrote, I think, a long time ago that summed up how he views things nicely. It was something along the lines of how his ideas are very hard to think of, and it's basically trivial to just layer code on top of them to get it working.

Like no middle school kid ever had the idea of "it's like world war 2 but in space... and you can do anything in it... and you can have like a billion players all fighting each other!" and they even drew up the world maps and technical thoughts like "just use a lot more servers and they mesh!" Like stringing a million fortnight servers together just works because of computer magic.

Star Citizen is literally that middle school kids' wet dream except instead of learning about project management and what actually goes into building software, much led video game software, they just got infinite money to go live their dream life and build an impossible game.

nice post there, i think that nails it. just want to add chris' justification if things dont work out like he imagined: the technology was not ready for his vision. like, you know, never admit any error and always fail upwards.

like if i listen to music and i'm like “i can do this a hundred times better“. 10 years later i failed miserably at recording anything good. the reason? well of course all the instruments i used were not up to my standards! (my vision was too good for these instruments, i need to wait for a new generation of guitars)

anyway sc is still a great comedy show so please go on cig.

LOL no. That's part of the punchline. To be fair it's not finished yet, so hard to saw which way they'll take it. Less going deeper, more surface gameplay.

I mean if he’s a private military contractor then he’s making six figures mostly tax free and with virtually no living expenses while he’s deployed. So taking 5 grand out of that for something stupid or frivolous isn’t going to make or break him. I see people who I work with do it all time when they come back and in much larger amounts.

It’s definitely silly and obscene to blow that money on video game spaceships, when you could build a high end gaming PC and buy enough games to last you a few years for the same money. But in the end is it really any worse than any other dumb and virtually valueless purchase in this plutocratic, state-capitalist and hyper-consumerist dystopia we live in?

I don’t know, maybe it’s just the nihilist in me, but I have to stop short of moral indignation when I see Star Citizen whales in the wild and just laugh. In a world that is constantly just generating trillions of dollars of “value” out of thin air, slapping brand logos on cheaply made crap to gauge the stupid and insecure; Chris’ JPEG and dreams factory seems like small potatoes.

Sage advice, we’ll see what happens when I get back from Afghanaland next year. I’ve moved to different states six times in the last four years, which isn’t conducive to building much of a life.

Also I’m just predisposed to being an existentially depressed contrarian who overanalyzes life. Like there’s something not wired correctly in my brain.

Now this is advice that I like. gently caress meaningful human relationships! Spending a few grand on video game spaceships will solve my ennui! I can’t wait to cruise the verse in luxury and dress down my space poor player crewmen, as I sit in my lavish space office with piles of books everywhere that advertise how smart and refined I am. I will cackle menacingly as they cringe in fear of me via FOIP, and send them off once again to scrub the space toilets clean with a toothbrush. I will stroll the decks in a garish bicorne hat overseeing it all, and feel the satisfaction that comes with knowing that I’ve made other people as miserable as I am.

With all this liable and slander stuff

What if I really believe chris is grifter ?
It's not my intent to slander because I believe it's true !

I'd love to get sued for calling out Chris as a corn crobbled crobbler.

First id love reading the slam dunks by ortwin. Then I'd go to court i would simply say Chris is a crobbler and he cannot prove otherwise

Chris would then take the stand and the hand waving would start, the case would then be delayed while they got a second stenographer who can read sign language.

Then the big day would arrive for real, Chris would start his long monolog on how great he is, but after 2106 hand geasuters the sign language stenographer will bust into tears, not able to cope with high fedilty sign language and the judge will make him wrap it up.

I play my ace, with a final argument "what is corn?$ This will be cut short as some random who starts screaming at the judge about my gay bear porn fettish and how I deserve to go to jail for vedio game crimes

By this point the whole court will be to crobbled to come to any conclusion and kick us out.

Being the upstanding gentleman that I am I'll offer a token settlement but in the currency off real men - jpegs.

Looking Chris right in JPEG the eye Il hand of a jpeg of a stain glass window, with Chris as the centre peice just like he virgin Mary, but with mo cap balls all over him, whales will be jumping in the background, Chris will be holding a cob of corn with his other hand glowing ready to save PC gaming. A constilation space ship above chris will be half clipped out of frame with its missing doors. The ships lift will float above going onwards and to hevans without explanation.
