For the first time in history, Chris Grayling has some intelligence faculties.

I hope he does the same thing for the intelligence committee as he did for transport. I stopped fifty terrorist plots last year Chris. I can't provide any evidence of this because of the secrets act, but it's real. Please bung a bunch of cash to my company I just set up.

Once upon a time I was told that 'American Intelligence' was a perfect oxymoron, much like 'Microsoft Works'. I don't know why I'm suddenly reminded of that fact.quote:The new boss’s first task will be to publish a report on Russia’s influence on the British establishment, which Boris suppressed in the run up to December’s general election. Harsh, harsh words from the Scum towards His Worship The Honorable Lord and Prime Minister Bozza there. Wonder if they edit that. E: Oh right, remember everybody we're going to have a budget tomorrow! I'm sure a couple of minor giveaways will stop this virus thingie in its tracks. Tune in at 12.30! Best part? At 18 months I think this is officially the longest ever gap between government budgets. And it's getting done by someone whos been in the job for less than a month. Strong and Stable! So much for the tolerant left!! Tory mind too stupid (but I repeat myself) to grasp that what Diana did was demonstrating that the type of contact she was making was not a way of catching HIV/AIDS and perfectly safe. Whereas what Boris did was to do something that medical advice says is a way to catch this particular virus in a stupid (again with the repeating) stunt that was blatantly trying for some of that Princess of Hearts energy. He deserves everything he might have caught, and several other things because I'm generous like that.

Ha. That wouldn't surprise me at all tbh. Stolen Lady Di Valour - how very on brand. Also, "brave" is a word I will never associate with Boris ever and if he's misguided he's only himself to blame.

"Brave but misguided" seems to be a very English way of politely saying "loving idiot" in hindsight, but yeah I agree. He's not filled with that type of stiff upper lipped stupidity, as much as he makes out that he might be, so my money's on the liar, no covid cases side.

for fucks sake https://twitter.com/rowenamason/status/1237435387490062339?s=20 me and my partner have been trying to contact 111, we're both sick with flu symptoms and basically just want the go ahead to self isolate. i'd obviously like a test so i know if i'm covered in grandma death virus but ofc i dont expec the UK to be doing that properly. so we call 111, it tells you to gently caress off unless you've been to wuhan or call the coronavirus hotline, we call the hotline and its closed for the night but directs us to an nhs information site, the nhs information site tells us to gently caress off unless you've been to wuhan they're so goddamn insistent on only closing the gate once the horse has bolted. our government is totally incapable of serious action on ANYTHING. we're honestly gonna make italy look like korea. we're 2 weeks behind italy and the governments plan is to ASK people to quarantine if symptomatic (too late)... in 2 weeks! OwlFancier posted:Boris/Corbyn. It's more that the media gets to decide who has that fabled magical power called "electability" and there isn't really a way around that. Trying to bypass through alternative/social media isn't enough because they have more reach and the olds vote more than the youngs. Trying to impress or placate them isn't enough because they're intimately linked with the existing political structures and their interest will always be in maintaining the status quo. Who knows what the solution is. Personally I'd like to see a left that treats the media with the scorn and bile they deserve, but that's more about grim satisfaction than thinking it'd improve our electoral chances much.

Time may change it, people who spend less time reading the papers vote more left, and they're also materially hosed by society. It'd be nice if we could get ahead of the fuckery but I'm pretty much convinced that entire concept is ahistorical at this point.

If nothing else the last few years have made me much more enthusiastically, ahem, bolshevik, about things. Not that that means anything given how hosed we are very soon and how there is absolutely zero significant appetite for more direct revolutionary politics. Thing with Bernie vs. Biden is it's not just Left vs. Center or Right, it's that Biden's brain is so transparently melted and so utterly, utterly unsuited for any kind of office or, frankly, anything more than assisted living. His brain's way further gone than Trump's, and Trump's brain is extremely filled with holes bored by worms. Anyone who putatively cares about America or the Democrats should feel impelled to vote for Bernie even if they disagree on every single one of his actual policies because it's vastly more important to get someone who is at minimum aware of where they are when they wake up in the morning. Christ, Trump might be a rampaging narcissist who has only failed to start WW3 because of his own incredible cowardice, but at least he doesn't seem inclined to start it because he thinks it's 1982 and the reds are making intimidating manuevers in the Carpathians, or whatever the hell Biden is going to believe when he presses the button. Last chance saloon is the final debate, and when I say "last chance saloon" I mean, like, not just for the Bernie campaign but ultimately for the Dems, for the USA, and for any kind of effort against climate change. e; Galling thing is that it's not really in Bernie's hands it's whether Biden has a meltdown so spectacular that it ruins him. Hahahah I just learned something interesting this thread will enjoy. A long time ago I posted in this thread about a financial instrument used by the WHO to generate money to fight a pandemic. I don't recall the exact details but it's something like "deposit some money with us and we'll give you more money back later on, UNLESS a pandemic happens in which case we'll use all your money for that and you can go gently caress yourself" Well, half a billion is tied up in that now, and curiously the WHO is not declaring this a pandemic https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/425m-in-world-bank-catastrophe-bonds-set-to-default-if-coronavirus-declared-a-pandemic-by-june quote:“As an investor, we do not want to lose money,” said Chin Liu, a portfolio manager at Amundi Pioneer, a Boston-based firm that purchased the bonds as a way to diversify the company's $1 billion catastrophe fund. “But then, we also understand if it’s unfortunately triggered, it benefits every single person, including ourselves, to keep the virus controlled.” Microplastics fucked around with this message at 09:08 on Mar 11, 2020 |
