Fister Roboto posted:I don't think that playing nice is going to get the left anything of what they want. It's exactly like trying to work with the Republicans, if you're naive enough to think that they'll play fair, then they'll just take you for a ride. Sanders needs to demonstrate that Biden falls short on many issues, and that there's a huge portion of the Democratic electorate that probably won't vote for him if those aren't addressed. The problem for Bernie is that he's down about 150 delegates, which would be extraordinarily tough to overcome if he was tied with Biden—but 538 currently has Sanders polling ~35% to Biden's 52%. With Sanders needing to win 57% of all remaining pledged delegates... it just does not look good. As for compromising... look, I've said it time and time again, but this is how politics works: You trade favors and make deals to get what you want, and sometimes you have to give up a little to get a lot. In this specific case, I think Sanders would be really, really foolish not to at least consider making a deal with Biden to drop and endorse in exchange for major influence on the party platform and the VP selection if he's looking down the barrel of an insurmountable lead come next week—especially since Sanders still wields a ton of influence and money that Biden's campaign do not want turned against them once the general comes around.

It's not an apples-to-apples comparison, but the general groupthink is that the United States is about 8-14 days behind Italy in terms of coronavirus status. Italy is much more dense than we are, but uh https://twitter.com/jamiedupree/status/1237845328620974080?s=19

The donors got their tax cut and they can appease the base by making everyone's life miserable through executive action. Thats it, thats all they needed to do.

Even Republicans need to pass things every so often, to bring money back to their districts and keep their constituents and donors happy. In particular: -Failing to "repeal and replace" Obamacare was a massive and embarrassing legislative failure -Failing to propose, let alone pass any kind of infrastructure bill to fix the nation's crumbling roads and bridges (and dish out millions of dollars to individual Congressional districts) -Failing to pass legislation to allocate money for the border wall, resulting in them having to steal money for the DoD to do so (thus directly taking money away from Congressional districts, which Democratic candidates like Cal Cunningham in North Carolina are already taking advantage of) -Failing to pass any kind of gun legislation that firearm owners actually *want*, like nationwide concealed carry reciprocity or amending the NFA to remove silencers or stuff like SBRs When you look at the 2016 Republican Party platform, there's all kinds of stuff they wanted to pass, in large part because there's only so much you can break or defund though executive action alone. They failed, for a variety of reasons, and those failures are going to hurt them on election day.

Biden has to himself learn AND THEN somehow convince his donors that they need to push reform so that he can do the bare minimum required to earn socialist voters.

Gretchen Whitmer's slogan for her successful campaign for governor in Michigan was "Fix the drat roads." As nationalized as politics has become, people do still and always have cared about what their elected officials are doing for their districts, and what kinds of jobs and money they're bringing in. People are already campaigning on these issues.

It's almost not even surprising anymore. This would be about a day after CDC officials were called to an "emergency" meeting at the White House while they were testifying in congress and, welp, would you look at the time we all gotta go no more questions kthxbye.
