I mean, given that there appear to be many people infected and asymptomatic or with very mild symptoms and we're just not doing the tests on the required scale to gain real insight into this, I don't really trust the 3%+ mortality rate. And also the Spanish flu killed by overstimulating the immune system, which happened primarily to those with the most active (aka, ordinarily the most healthy) immune systems, so young, healthy people mostly. Which does have a larger societal impact. I now hold the position that the western government responses to the virus were simultaneously overblown and way too timid. Overblown due to what appears to be the actual mortality rate, but way too timid because there was no way to know this information 2 months ago while we did already know about how infectious it was. So basically corona could've led to millions of dead motherfuckers and the government response would have barely helped with this, but it appears that things won't be so bad because we lucked out.

last week my boss was trying to bait me into having an argument about the "newest hoax" and "bat soup" and i refused to say a word. thursday he mentioned how glad he was trump "saved lives" by closing the border with europe and goaded me into shouting at him because suddenly i wasn't taking the situation seriously like he was friday he left work 5 hours early to panic buy and stock up, he also bought a massive generator just in case you're wondering how the "people who only get their news from facebook and AM radio" crowd is doing. i'll let you know when it was all a democrat hoax and trump is the only one with clear vision again. it's hilarious that the people who literally sell doomsday prep material all whee severely downplaying the need for doomsday prepping just last week "I hate this democrat hoax that says you need to "be prepared" for a "coming disaster"! and now a word from our sponsor: 5 pound bucket of freeze dried eggs to help you prepare for a coming disaster!"
